Hi All
I want to ask for a necklace from DH for Christmas (i lost my diamond pendant which I used to wear daily) :(
I want something nice and that I can just wear all the time. I have diamond stud earrings and I just leave them in always, except to clean, so I want a nice necklace to wear always as well.
I looked at the Tiffany site but i dont know how durable some of the necklaces are. Beautiful yes, but could i wear it always, or is it too danty?
I also like some David Yurman Stuff but still wasnt sure if i could get away with wearing everyday.
Budget is $700 or less so nothing too crazy and I just wanted to get some ideas from you ........
These are cute but im unsure.......are they too "dainty"

you think the chain is solid enough? I guess so though the most solid chain is the box chain.
I hope to wear it always, sleep, workout, etc.

Do you think the chains are the same? I don't think so, but I'm not sure because the pictures are too small even if I use the zoom.

Very nice although I prefer colorless stones.

I wear my 1 mm white gold box chain with lobster clasp 24/7...I bought it nearly four years ago and I never broke it.

If budget isn't the issue, go with the 0.50 ct pendant - 7 diamonds, 7 points each -: my mum's cluster flower
ring is very similar to the 0.50 ct pendant and I can assure you it has a remarkable presence.
0.25 ct pendant: I think it could be too dainty - 3 pointers are small.

Budget or carat...I hope I'm not putting you in a difficult position... :wavey:

hi - no i want your input definitly! looks like the .50 7pt from Brian Gavin is $650. Budget was 6-7 so that is perfect!
necklace is 16 inches, im wondering if its too short. you also said maybe have them send a box chain? im guessing that would be an additional cost, and 18 inches? would that be better?

Yep,I think you can ask the seller to send you a box chain instead of the cable chain.
16 inches or 18 inches? It depends on your taste...but remember that a longer chain makes the neck appear thinner.
Of course, a 18 inches chain costs a bit more than a 16 inches chain, but I think the additional price should be around 20/30 USD at the most.

I spoke to BGD, they said the chain it comes with is the same chain used for all their pendants and that they are sturdy and never have people calling say they broke, so maybe i'll just see.
Also, here is another question......I have diamond stud earrings, but they are not screw backs, and im worried they are going to fall out one day and i'll lose one. Anything I can do to secure them? can you make them screw backs if they aren't??

I have no reason not to believe them...I told you about the durability of the box chain because that's what my local jeweller suggested me when I did my purchase.

I don't think you can make them screw backs if they aren't, but you'd better seek professional advice.

A regular push back should be fine as long as it's the right size for your earrings and for the wire. If the earring back doesn't feel secure to you, you might consider just getting new backs, any good jeweler should be able to help you with this. I actually get mine at a local pawn shop that I trust -- I guess they're used to seeing earrings come in sans backs so they always have a large selection or replacement backs on hand. Just be aware that even simple push-backs are going to cost a bit if you get 14k gold, especially now.

So just wanted to update everyone. Hubby and I have decided to forgo christmas gifts this year and buy a generator for the house. We lost power in a recent storm for 6 days. It was aweful as we had no where to go and with 2 dogs, hotels weren't really an option.
So....................I dont think I'll be getting the xmas necklace I was hoping for.

Oh well, at least it we lose power again, i'll have heat and be able to take a warm shower :wink2:

Thanks again for the help everyone offered with ideas!

you will never regret getting a good, reliable generator! we have a commercial unit with a propane tank dedicated to it and it comes on automatically when power goes out. over about 5 days we used 10-13%. its a 100 gallon tank. but then we live in a forest.....and are usually the last to get power restored.

don't scrimp on the generator: i did that in the past and had to replace every few years. it costs as much to repair the inexpensive ones as it does to buy a new one.

Purplesilk, sorry you lost out on a new sparkly necklace ( :(sad ) but I agree with the generator. We now live semi rural and 13-14 years ago, we had a wicked ice storm which covered most of the NE of the continent. Since moving here, DH has been considering one. Now, we have a g/c with a big box store and as dull as it seems, we are going to get a generator too. Our concerns are making sure the sump pump still works, should we lose power in the spring. We were about an inch away from flooding this spring - my daughter and I were bailing like crazy while DH ran off to get a replacement pump. Made it - but too risky to go thru that again.

Generator's ROCK!

Generator's ROCK!

Well, it wasn't me the one who needed a new generator but I think Grace will appreciate your hearty thoughts.
