see pics for structure of setting (platinum peg head) - My emerald cut engagement ring just arrived with an 18k rose gold band, when it should be a yellow gold band.

I am hoping that the process to change band is minimally invasive. Since the head is platinum and connects to the band at a small point (you can see the small dot in the photo of the band's inside). Best case would be that the head is separated from the band at that same point, new band created with yellow gold and hole drilled, old head inserted into hole and soldered. fingers cross it is that simple, I have researched throughly, with no luck of an explanation- hoping I can find some help here!

my questions are..

-if the ring is changed to a yellow gold band, what would that process look like? Specifically, will the center diamond and pavè stones need to be removed and reset?
- would something like this require a new CAD?
-any chance the yellow gold will make the diamond face less white?

Some back story- I was working with a diamond broker remotely who sourced a jeweler to create custom setting, the first photo I sent him for setting inspiration ws shown with a rose gold band, and I included a note that it should be a "gold" band instead. All other photos I provided had a yellow gold band and I referred to it as, "gold band". I never once used the word "rose gold"...but I also did not specify, "yellow" gold. When I received photos of the CAD, I even confirmed with my contact the band was gold (because it appeared borderline rose gold). oh well, not trying to place blame, but I do feel guilty asking for this to be corrected.. Luckily, it is not an overly pink rose gold. however, when it is alongside yellow gold pieces- it is noticeable (see photos). ALL my jewelry is yellow gold, including some sentimental rings passed down from my family, so I would really like it to match.

*dipping it in yellow gold is an option I will explore at last resort

It id not a major problem to change the rose gold part for the yellow gold one. Hopefully, the order was written up correctly for yellow gold because it so, then it should be no cost to you. There should be no problem with any of the small diamonds as they are all in the platinum head and should not be affected by any heat process required, Just a pain in the neck to have handled and then life will go on as normal.

thank you for the reply! that is what I am hoping for! There was no specification of which color gold on the invoice, so it is an awkward conversation.. hearing it is a relatively easy fix, not needing to start from scratch, makes me feel better about asking my contact to change it:)

I have no advice but just wanted to say that the ring is really pretty and that your hands and nails are amazing!
thank you so much!!!

It’s truly beautiful - but that setting design makes me nervous TBH!

It isn't what you asked about, but if you whack the head just right I imagine it could break or bend because the head is only attached by that tiny little point...I can't find the thread, but someone posted a thread about a ring with a similar design, the head broke, and the diamond got lost (luckily they found it). Definitely insure your diamond to be safe.

I can’t find it either, that thing was the Soap Opera of the year… they ended up finding the peg head & stone in the ice dispenser! The thing had snapped off when she was getting ice out of the freezer!

They tore the house and their dog park apart and the damn ice was on ice the whole time.

Beautiful ring!!! Do you mind sharing the specs? Good luck with changing the band to yellow gold!

It was AWFUL to even read - I can't even imagine experiencing it firsthand!

Ice in the ice! That’s an amazing story.
OP I love your ring and I hope for a quick resolution!

Oh no worries about asking them to change it. It was a miscommunication. You are not being an unreasonably discontented customer. I don’t know whether you will have to pay, but if you do, that’s another reason not to feel bad. Sorry for the hassle and the time you might lose with your ring. It really is pretty. I love the L/W ratio.

I’m pretty sure it’s this one: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/diamond-broke-off-what-would-you-do.261901/#top - it was a 3ct ring!!! Honestly reading that story made me rethink my own e-ring design... I wanted a peg head but now I’m doing a cathedral style and maybe even a small donut.

To the OP, good luck changing the ring to YG! It should be an easy fix.

I was assured it is 100% structurally sound. we custom made the setting so every element is tailored to the unique aspects of my particular diamond for stability.. instead of going the pre-made semi mount route. but now I am nervous.. should I ask that the new yellow gold band be fused closer to where the prongs meet so the head Haas more to grab onto? I was told the stone is already sitting as low as it can go in the head, so not sure if that would be an option. ah!

do you see where the white dot is in the underside of the ring? that looks like where the peg is joined to the band. the jeweler would just have to take it out and solder it onto a yellow gold band. i don't know that there's much else to be done for stability with that design though, it does look low set, you may just have to baby it a little & try not to whack the head on anything.

seems like it! I wonder if they could countersink the hole in yellow gold band so that the head sinks into the shank a touch deeper, making that point where prongs are fused to head thicker?

perhaps it may be in my best interest to fuse the wedding ring to give those prongs more to grab down the road
