I am looking at an OEC of just over 3ct M VS1. If it were you, would you replace my current 2.73ct N SI1 modern RB stone and keep my current setting?
I'll spend more to make the change. I just have this STRONG desire for an OEC and I can't have both.

Would you please post the picture of the current ring for us? That way we don't have to go searching for it!

Nevermind...found it!

Gosh, that setting would be perfect for the new stone if the diameters are almost the same! Are they? And if it is a great OEC, then yes, I think it would be fabulous in that setting!

I'd appreciate a pic of the 3ct OEC as well.

Thanks!

Go for it! But then what would you do w/ the 2.73 ct RB?

Hi Brightice. I have been having been having the same thoughts too. I have a modern RB in an N si1 and have been lusting over OECs for a while now. However I've never seen one in person. So I finally went to Single Stone in San Marino last weekend to have a good look. They are stunning!! But I decided that I'm keeping my RB for now, I think I would miss it if I got rid of it. It gives me good finger coverage and I think I will get a antique mounting for it one of these days. But it sounds like you might have a good deal with the 3ct and if you could get rid of your RB maybe just go for it! Snicklefritz do you still have your ring from Leddel? That is one of my favorite rings on PC.

Whoa! Umm, yes, that would be fantastic in that setting!!!! Victor said it would work, I take it?

After seeing the OEC yes yes yes! It would be delicious in your setting, OMG do it!

What do you all think is a fair offer on the stone?

Asking $25,493. It has a GIA cert. I won't pay full retail value.

I would think about this carefully. I read all the raves on Pricescope about OECs and in the pics on here the stones look lovely. and I respect the historical value, of course. However, I find that my OEC-- which is small (.25 carat) and set in an original 1920's filigree setting that is beautiful but may not let in the most light) and is also not actually an OEC but a transitional cut in between old mine cut and old european cut--performs beautifully in low light circumstances (evening, candlelight) but is outperformed by my more modern cuts, gnerally speaking. The newer stones (some are H and A and some are not) are much like the OEC in candlelight and low light (comparing the two kinds of stones then, you would only say that the flashes of light are different, not that one or the other is better), but sparkle a lot in daytime, sunlight and other situations where the older stone does not look like much. I don't know if the facts I have noted above about my older stone are the reasons I am not getting the performance I would expect, or if there is something I am not appreciating but this is what I have found.
BTW my old cut stone is a very high color also. It is F colored so is probably not behaving the same as a low colored stone, if that's what you prefer.
I just hope you have a chance to compare both before switching, in many different environments. I like having both kinds but if I had to pick only one, it would not be my OEC.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. I personally do not care for modern RBs, but LOVE OECs. I have not had the pleasure to compare a good example of an OEC next to a modern RB, so I can't say how they perform differently, but I have had an OEC on my finger (when I was looking at SS settings) and I can say that there was no lighting scenario where that baby didn't glow. I think that gorgeous OEC would look awesome in your VC setting!

I think the OEC would be stunning in your current setting!!  so thats my vote! :P

Hmm, well, GOG has a newly cut AVC 3.19 M VS1 at $29,858. Obviously that will carry a price premium since it has been cut to have ideal light performance.

Does the OEC have a girdle that is at least thin or better?

He says it is in great shape. The reports says thin to thick. I don't have a copy of the #'s off the report. I asked for it but he says I got the full report. Doesn't GIA reports all have complete information.

Maybe it is an old report? What is the date and report number? Maybe we can look it up! Will need exact weight on the report, also.

It's a 2010 report. 3.09CT

Report #1122518146

Do care about what kind of light performance it has? I think you could have an appraiser look at it or buy an ASET scope yourself. It surely looks beautiful in the video, but it would be nice if it didn't have major leakage or something that would hurt light performance. How long of a return period do you have? I'd probably offer $20k.

Yes, I would care about light performance. My Infinity has exceptionable light performance so I don't want to sacrifice too much.

They have a 10 day return policy. I was thinking right about 20K maybe 21K.

Bright Ice is it off the secondary market or the primary?

I have owned MRB and two OECs around 6mm. Each OEC is so different I cannot in good conscience say "Oh, yes, switch it out!" My mom's OEC does not perform like a modern RB and looks much better in some lighting than others. I prefer a modern RB to an OEC cut like my mom's. But my current OEC performs just like a modern RB but chunkier. I prefer my present OEC to a modern RB and think it would be frigging amazing in a 3ct size!

So, before you set it and seal the deal, ave it sent to you and look at it and compare to your RB and decide which you like more! Your opinion on its beauty matters much more than an appraisers so see it in person.

Primary market so they are asking retail.

My issue is that if I put another diamond in my current setting the parameters have to be fairly close.

Of course I guess another option would be just keep it as it is and get a smaller OEC, say around 2 ct :naughty:

If a 2 carat is doable AND keeping your ring as is... I'd DO that! woohoo two pieces :)

Skippy, that stone is not showing up reserved when I look at the page.

I would not jump on it right away. Have you seen this stone in person yet? I really feel you need to compare it in person before making a decision. I love both RB and OECs but they perform so differently. If I had my pick, I would likely stick with a H&A ideal cut RB for my ering. I love OECs as a RHR or a secondary ring.

No, I have not seen it in person. I agree that they perform very differently.

To be honest, I have been eying this one for a while

I agree with bean, I'd go with keeping your ring as is and going for a smaller OEC (I love the one you posted  ). I just think your current ring is so beautiful as is. I wouldn't want to mess with success!

I say ask yourself what your heart truly desires! If it is the OEC, then go for it! You only live once, and if you love it it will absolutely be worth it to pay a little more because you will enjoy it everyday for many many years!!
