Game time, PSers!

I’ll ask a simple “would you rather” jewelry question; first person to answer has to propose another “would you rather” for the next person etc. so we can keep the game going.

Both / neither are not acceptable answers! But you can explain your answer a little if you like (why you picked it, how you interpret the Q etc)

Would you rather:

Spend $X on buying a tennis bracelet or a tennis necklace? (Meaning if you had to spend a specific sum of money would you rather have a tennis necklace (more stones but smaller) or a tennis bracelet (fewer stones but bigger))?

A tennis bracelet both for bigger stones and so that I can see it - necklaces you can't see and admire while you are wearing them!

My Q - would you rather have a bigger eye clean stone or a smaller high clarity stone? (perhaps this is a boring question as it's been discussed before in many RT forums but that is all I could think of at the moment!).

Bigger eye clean! Obviously!

Would you rather have a huge five stone with many tiny prongs that show the stones but catch on things, or the same diamonds bezel set so the ring is smooth as butter but you can’t see the profiles as well?

(Not a personal question at all lol)

Oh my god haha this is going to be a hard one.

My vote is little prongs but a well made setting so it won't catch on as much. Something about a band full of diamonds without anything else distracting it is timeless.

Now I'll probably be banned from PS for asking this.. would you rather..

1. One HG stone ring.. ortrta type or
2. Lots of different rings

One HG stone, without a doubt. I'd rather have the one than a bunch others that aren't it. In the same spirit...

You have two phenomenal and perfectly matched diamonds. Would you rather make them into earrings or use them as side stones for a ring with that one perfect stone?

I was thinking of asking that! So in theory, it would be one HG but because I’m a ridiculous magpie it ends up being lots of different ones.

Also, I think that we should answer all of the questions possibly because that means some people don’t get to answer the others!

For Dreamer, I would pick the prongs.

For the question about earrings or side stones - side stones.

Would you rather:

Give up jewelry for a year or coffee for a year?

Easy, I don’t drink coffee!

Would you rather have an pretty included (stable), beautifully colored earth mined gem, or a loupe clean, same color synthetic version?

I would choose the included one as my favourite stones are cabochon, which imho look amazing when there are inclusions.

Would you rather spend more time saving for your jewellery or buy more affordable pieces that you spend more time enjoying?

Ok, trying to get caught up, I’ll answer each of these…

*bracelet or necklace
*bigger eye clean stone or smaller better clarity
*prongs or bezel
*HG or lots of smaller rings
*earrings or 3 stone
*no jewlery or no coffee for a year
*included earth gem or synthetic
*save for a big piece or buy several smaller pieces

Would you rather buy a 2ct antique Tiffany diamond ring or an 3ct antique unsigned diamond ring?
-both have beautiful diamonds

That would depend of the size of the stones. I don't wear large diamond studs anymore--maybe in dangles?

HI:

Would you rather have a large carat weight diamond tennis bracelet; or a smaller size stone diamond tennis necklace that you could also wrap, twice, around your wrist?

cheers--Sharon

I would prefer a five stone of the shared prong nature. I am not a fan of lots of prongs - looks 'prongy' to me and detracts from the diamonds. Bezel settings are beautiful, but not if they impact the stone's performance - particularly on smaller stones.

Aside from having both, I’d choose a tennis bracelet. I’m much more into rings, bracelets and watches because I can see them and enjoy looking and admiring them. Necklaces and earrings require a mirror / reflection and apparently it’s socially awkward in public to stand in front of mirrors or glass and admire your reflection.

okay, I'll try to answer all (or at least most) as @Mreader suggested.

1. Necklace or bracelet---neither. I have both and never wear them.
2. Bigger eye clean or smaller high clarity - bigger eye clean
3. Huge 5 stone with tiny prongs or bezel. Probably neither as huge would not be what I wanted. I'd want every day wearable.
4. One HG or lots of smaller ones--lots of smaller ones. I like variety.
5. two perfectly matched diamonds-- if they were mrbs, then I'd use them as earrings. If old cuts, I'd use as side stones if I had the right old cut center for them. (I prefer old cuts in my rings).
6. Give up jewelry for a year, or coffee? If you mean buying jewelry, then I guess I'd give that up before coffee every morning.
7. Pretty but included earth mined, or loupe clean synthetic- Neither. If the earth mined was visably included to "my eyesight", that wouldn't work for me, but synthetics have no appeal to me.
8. 2 ct. antique Tiffany vs. 3 ct. unbranded antique--Brand names mean nothing to me. I'd pick one based on how the stone looks and how much I like the setting and the price.

I think I've answered all, but skipped some that were fairly similar.

Q: Assuming other specs are the same would you prefer a 2 Ct. F/G color OEC or a 2 Ct. L/M color OEC for about half the price?

The 2 Ct L/M OEC - they’re so romantic and beautiful.

Would you rather set the 2 Ct L/M OEC in platinum or 18k yellow gold for a ring?

Oooh time for me to get caught up! I’ll try answering all the ones posted so far like @Mreader suggested and then maybe pose a new one:

- bigger eye clean stone over smaller high clarity stone (I don’t care about clarity overmuch)
- prong set 5 stone over bezel set (I don’t like a bezel setting, and I like how prongs let you see more of the stone)
- one HG ring over multiple ones trying to scratch the itch else I wouldn’t be satisfied; but let’s be real, jewelry is like pokemon. You gotta catch ‘em all :D I have no doubt once I have ONE HG I’ll want another HG (maybe an HG solitaire, then an HG eternity, then an HG halo… you get the drift)
- I don’t like 3 stone settings, so I think earrings would be an easy pick for me! Unless the stones are too small to make anything but sidestones!
- I don’t drink coffee, so I’d easily give up coffee for a year. But you can snatch my bling from my cold dead hands :D
- lab grown stones aren’t mind clean for me, and with coloured stones I like inclusions (they give them character) so I’d go with the mined included coloured stone
- id rather save and buy exactly what I want than a bunch of affordable alternatives that aren’t exactly what I want. The anticipation makes it better for me.
- I’d rather have a 3ct unsigned ring over a 2ct Tiffany - I don’t care for brand names
- oooh the tennis necklace/bracelet question made me pause. If I had no other jewelry for my neck and arm I’d pick the bracelet because I feel like a tennis bracelet is a staple. But if I already had multiple high CTW bracelets (or something like a solitaire bracelet) then I’d pick the tennis necklace.
- I’d pick the 2ct FG OEC over the LM even if I had to pay more - I have found the hard way that J, max max max K, is my limit for colour!
- but if I had a 2ct LM OEC that I had to set - I’d probably do a 2 tone setting so that the contrast against the YG shank made it look whiter but the plat head introduced less colour into the stone!

New question (and a kinda sensitive one maybe so I’m sorry if it hurts someone):

let’s say you have a family member who was super close to you (a grandparent, parent etc) who left you their engagement ring (from their long lasting happy marriage) and it’s something you wear everyday as an RHR. Both this ring and your ering are fully insured so that you would be made as whole as possible if you lose it. Would you rather lose your own ering or the inherited ring?

Good question! I would rather lose my new ring & save my inherited treasure.

Would you rather:

Wear the inherited ring as it is to preserve the history & craftmanship, even though you absolutely hate the setting because it’s simply not your style? Or reset the beautiful inherited stone into a setting you love & take the horrible hit to your conscience?

It’s my own Q but I’ll just say that I agree with you. I feel like the modern ring is easier replaced with “like” than the antique.

To answer your Q: I’ll let my conscience suffer! The setting is as important as the stone to me, though I might pop a coloured gem in the setting if it’s otherwise objectively beautiful (just not my style) and offer it around to someone else in the fam who appreciates it.

We have a bunch of questions in the mix anyway but I’ll toss another in:

Would you rather be proposed to with a natural diamond eternity ring or a large lab grown solitaire diamond? (Assume they cost about the same).

Reset!

Tennis bracelet v necklace — necklace because I have a bracelet

Five stone with tiny prongs v bezel — tiny prongs, but low set and shared

One hg ring v lots of different rings — I used to say lots of different rings but I like jewelry for the rocks, not the setting, so really if I had an unlimited budget, I would have 1 hg ring and 40 cuff bracelets

2 diamonds —> earrings v 3-stone - 3-stone bc I lose earrings

Jewelry v coffee — I paid for my AVR by skipping Starbucks for 6 months

More time saving —> goal jewelry, v less time saving —> more time spent admiring jewelry — assuming I can’t both buy cheap jewelry to enjoy now AND expensive goal jewelry later, I will wait and save

2ct antique Tiffany v 3ct antique unsigned — 2ct because I would rarely wear a 3ct, and I do think Tiffany is cool

Large diamond tennis bracelet v small diamond tennis necklace that can wrap into a bracelet — small diamond tennis necklace

F/G OEC v L/M OEC at half the price — L/M

L/M in platinum v 18k yellow gold —18k yellow gold, am not a fan of low color in white metal

Lose my ring v lose inherited ring — Lose my ring b/c I can get myself another my ring

Wear inherited ring as-is even if I absolutely hate the setting v reset the stone — reset. Love the idea of keeping the setting I don’t like and giving it to another family member who would not be upset

Engagement ring with natural stones in eternity setting v lab stone solitaire — is it cheating to say lab solitaire for engagement and natural eternity for wedding band? If that is cheating… Assuming I could have other jewelry pieces that have natural diamonds, I would take the lab solitaire

Let’s say there are two jewelry pieces that are tied for holy grail status. Would you rather (1) have both of them, but everyone else who sees them thinks your HG pieces are fake (whatever “fake” means to you); or (2) only have one of them, and everyone knows your HG piece is real (whatever “real” means to you)?

HI:

2c Tiffany cuz I love Tiffany.
No labs stones for me.
Losing an inherited ring would be heartbreaking.

cheers--Sharon

100% tennis bracelet. I wear my convertible as a bracelet a lot more than as a necklace. I love being about to look at the diamonds!

My Q - would you rather have a bigger eye clean stone or a smaller high clarity stone? (perhaps this is a boring question as it's been discussed before in many RT forums but that is all I could think of at the moment!).
Bigger stone 100%

Prongs with flour de lis baskets! I love mine so much-you need the baskets!

MRTRTA-Many rings to rule them all

A big fat three stone.

Would you rather:

Give up jewelry for a year or coffee for a year?
Tea and diet soda also have caffeine:geek2:

Earth mined

Would you rather spend more time saving for your jewellery or buy more affordable pieces that you spend more time enjoying?
Buy, buy, and buy.
Would you rather buy a 2ct antique Tiffany diamond ring or an 3ct antique unsigned diamond ring?
-both have beautiful diamonds
3 CT

Unless the stone is a brownie, I would go with platinum

My own new ring
Would you rather:

Reset so the stone can be worn. But keep the setting if that makes your conscience feel better.

We have a bunch of questions in the mix anyway but I’ll toss another in:

Natural diamond eternity ring

More is more. I buy for my own pleasure. But, IRL, I usually hide my jewels because I feel a bit guilty...

Would you rather:

Rather remake the antique ring of your dreams or wait for an authentic antique ring, even if it takes years to acquire it?
