Would you leave your country right now?

I'm really curious as to whether you would leave your Country right now if you were allowed to.

So imagine you wouldn't need to worry about flights or quarantine. Let's just say you'll just magically teleport there and it'll all be legal.

Assume you don't have the virus

You can only bring your immediate household (including pets)

You can bring/liquidate your assets

You can NEVER return to your country

You can choose to go wherever you like, any virus free or low virus country of your choice

Would you do it? Would you leave your current country?

I'm in Minneapolis right now and my spouse is black, and I'm very upset with the political system, so I'd love to leave, but we have good jobs that fulfill us, a home we love, and a support system here that we don't even want to leave Minneapolis at this point, even as it burned.

No.
I've been in America for eighteen years.
For the first year or so I said "I'm from Australia" proudly and longingly. I missed it desperately. I planned to go back for university and counted the months.
I don't remember when I started thinking of the US as "home". But I didn't apply to a single non-domestic college.
This country - for all the cr*p that we're going through, for all the cr*p that we've put ourselves through - I can't imagine a day when it won't have my heart and my loyalty.

I miss my family so for sure I'd leave. And I suppose if the right opportunity arose I'd go now. But I like living in Asia way better than living in the west and I'd have hige cultural shock if I tried to leave now. I've loved living in singapore and even loved the time I got to spend in Beijing. If I left then I would deeply miss Asia and be a bit miserable about it. Still if I got an opportunity to return to the same city as my parents I would probably take it so I could spend some time with them while everyone is still healthy and happy (also my daughter misses them). But I dont think the chances of this happening are very high as my job is a bit specialised-- which makes us constantly drift towards big/bigger cities. My home town is essentially just too small to have jobs in this sector.

No, under those conditions I would not leave my country right now. Yes I dream and romanticize about leaving with all that is happening here but I still love my fellow Americans and our country too. I do not love or like the political leaders and all that entails. But I am not ready to abandon the ship.

Plus my family and friends live here and not ever being able to see them again isn't acceptable to me. The USA is home to me for better or for worse and I am staying and hopefully can help make it part of the better for the worse has gone on for too long and it is time for change.

I will add this however. Home isn't so much a place as it is the people and that is why the USA is my home. It is where my loved ones live.
With my DH wherever we are is our home.

I’m in South Africa. I’d be out of here in a flash. If I could magically teleport anywhere and be allowed to settle there legally I’d move to Perth, Australia. Or Adelaide. Or any city in Australia really, I’m not too fussy.

If not possible I’d probably head to the UK - that’s where our real life plans are taking us as soon as lockdown is over.

I think I’d be ok with never being allowed to return to South Africa. I’m going to miss it but I’d rather miss living here than actually live here.

Nope, very happy on the USA. I’ve been to 38 different countries to visit and while beautiful, not home.

No. I may never leave Canada again.

I was born in the UK and I have lived in Hong Kong but now Australia is my home. I feel very grateful to be living in here and I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

Lol thanks for making me smile. I hear you. But in another year or two hopefully we will be able to safely travel. Hopefully.

No, this is my home, this is where I'm born, its where I'll die. I will not leave it, and I will fight to the death for it.

No.

I had made UK my home the moment I set foot on it in 1979 when I arrived at Heathrow by plane to attend school one cold, damp and foggy morning in early September.

I had contemplated relocating to France or Belgium in late 90s for work, and studied hard in gaining French language qualifications etc.. However, that went up in smoke when I left my employer of 12 years due to my divorce (I met my ex-hubby via work, and he is still working there).

If returning to my home in UK is not an option, then I would rather not relocate, as my home is truly my castle and where I am happiest.

DK :))

If the OP conditions existed, I’d buy a shambling farmhouse near Raglan in Wales and write a disappointing novel.

But I’d stay a part of PS!

I was hoping you’d say that! :)

Not without my family (Mother/Step-Father, and Brothers).

No, Canada is the only country I want to live in. I've fallen in love with other countries and daydreamed about packing up and moving to maybe Costa Rica, but Canada is my true home.

Nope not yet anyway. Where to go? my best friend now has an Irish passport in addition to her USA one, her grandparents were born in Ireland, and if your grandparents were born in Ireland you can get an Irish passport. for me it was all my great grandparents and that is too far back for Ireland. I wish I could one.

If America continues along this path of fascism I would sincerely think about it as would my husband.

GREAT question.

Maybe. I was born and raised here and had always felt a deep love for this country, but I have never felt like I belonged...like a "true" American. Our culture and society have made damn sure of that. Being a family of color in the US can be a very tough thing, even in a major metro area like ours. And it's getting tougher by the day, given the current state of things. :cry2:

Right now? No. I left my country of birth due to racism. If things get as bad as my birth country, I will pack up and leave but as of now, I don't know where.

No. Being in France means that I can go back to my home country by driving a few hours. I love my home and it was hard to move the kids internationally, so I don't need that option.
Being European also means that I can easily move to many nice countries with a good quality of life and outstanding social safety net.
Distance wise all options are closer than a move within the US from coast to coast.
I guess since the real life possibility is always open, it's not a " dream" thing.

I could never leave Canada. My roots here go back generations. Who I am as a person is very much related to our geography and the culture of our people.
I stand on guard for thee.
