Would you leave your country right now?

I live in New Zealand and despite our progress with covid yes, I would leave.

NZ is very isolated, the cost of living in the cities is extortionate, the range of goods and services available is generally poor, and I find the culture stifling.

I would move back to the UK. Maybe Scotland. Beautiful scenery but you can get to London for shopping, theatre, etc. Brick houses with central heating!! More job opportunities. Travel to Europe is quick and easy.

Nope, I would not leave my country (US).

I could never leave Canada. My roots here go back generations. Who I am as a person is very much related to our geography and the culture of our people.
I stand on guard for thee.

Most of my life I've felt this way. But as things have changed, I've changed with them. I'd leave.

What has changed for you that you would leave? Can I ask?

No. Why would I leave a country that has so much beauty and possibility to a bunch of gun-toting right-wing racists who don't believe in science or helping other people? They don't deserve it. I'm going to stay and fight to Make America Great. For Everyone.

Asking is OK with me. I'll just keep my reasons close--I hope that is also OK, Begonia.

My country is not perfect but no, I would never leave the United States of America.

I'm really curious as to whether you would leave your Country right now if you were allowed to.

So imagine you wouldn't need to worry about flights or quarantine. Let's just say you'll just magically teleport there and it'll all be legal.

Assume you don't have the virus

You can only bring your immediate household (including pets)

You can bring/liquidate your assets

You can NEVER return to your country

You can choose to go wherever you like, any virus free or low virus country of your choice

Would you do it? Would you leave your current country?

Yes.

Nope. Would like to stay here as long as possible.

I would love to be American

but right now i feel very fortunate and maybe for the first time genuinely greatful to be a NZer

it isnt perfect but i know realize its closer to perfect than most other countries are ever going to get

We very rearly have civil unrest and riots
We don't get extremes of temperature
Society is reasonably open and excepting

Im 6th generation, descended from the first settlers before the first ships as we were whalers,

Oh and elections are every 3 years !

^This. I’ll stay! I dislike change so I am sort of stuck. The US is far from perfect but it is home. Also, I would not leave my family as small as it may be.

No

No. I may never leave Canada again.

And I wish certain Americans wouldn't lie at the border and be completely disrespectful of our laws and the health of everyone they encounter too. It's hard, because it's such a small (and stupid) minority but it taints our view of everyone south of the border (unfairly).

I have lived all over. In multiple places in the US, Canada, and Europe. Each place I have lived has had things that I have deeply appreciated about them and enjoyed, and each has had drawbacks. I love to travel and love to live in different places, so who knows. When the pandemic ends, I intend to resume traveling again. Maybe if the right opportunity came up, I would consider moving again. Ideally somewhere warm.

As an American I apologize for their stupidity. I hope all stay well in Canada!

LOL I would book it out of America so fast it would make your head spin. I'm glad I live in Chicago now (vs. the hellfire racist swamp of Florida I grew up in), however I don't have any hope of seeing any real progress in "American values" changing or the dissipation of the choke-hold on democracy that the Republican party currently has, and I'm just ****ing tired of the fight today. Give me a peaceful country with socialized healthcare and snow and I'll leave this shitshow to the birds.

Yes, we are intending to. NOT because of anything here, but simply because our only chid lives 5000 miles away, is getting married next year, and they both want us to go and live near them. We’re not under any illusions that uprooting our lives from the only place we’ve ever lived to live somewhere else, is going to be easy, but we know as we get older, it’ll get more difficult to spend the best part of a day to go and visit and inevitably, we just won’t be able to.

No, my husband's job is the only thing keeping us going and it is somewhat region specific. Also family. It's funny because despite how much we may dislike the state we live in, we continue to stay here. As much as we may dislike a lot of things about the U.S right now we continue to stay here. Maybe we hang in on both accounts hoping it gets better.

No, Scotland is home and despite having a dreadful reputation in some areas, there is no where else I'd rather be. (I'd happily ditch the midgies though).

Where does your son live Austina? Will it be a huge change in environment, climate etc?

I love Canada. I just discovered it last year - went twice - and am in love! It's a bit risky to say this on the strength of two short visits, but I reckon I could live there easily.

I'm grateful for what we do have in the US though, even if it has problems. Love the variety of landscape and the natural beauty, and that living can be quite inexpensive outside the major metropolitan areas.

Whisper, what is it about the culture that you find stifling? Am curious. I've only ever heard good things about NZ!

No - but never say never.

My family is here and that is important. And for my home- all my stuff is here so there's that. :)

Nope I have nowhere else to go all my families and friends are here in the US, besides I must stay here to fight the liberals...boxinggy2.gif :praise:

I can remember feeling that way once or twice in my life, elsewhere.

Now, not

Nope, I am very happy & safe in my home country of Australia. I adore travelling the world but ultimately think the pull to your roots is very strong....

DS lives in Texas @mellowyellowgirl, we live in the UK, so yes to quite a climate change, yes to quite a culture change, we don‘t have armed police on the streets here, but the area he lives in reminds him of ‘home’, and he will become a citizen this year and that is where his life is. On the day we travel, we’re up before 6am, get to the airport about 8am, flight is usually between 11-12 am. 10 hour flight, + 6hrs time difference, and an hour from the airport to his place, and it‘s not getting any easier.

Once we leave here, we won’t ever come back, we’ll get on with integrating there and making a new life for ourselves. We most definitely won’t be the typical ex-pats always complaining about how things are better back home, any country that welcomes us should expect that we will do everything to adapt and fit in.
