Would you go shopping in your Pyjamas?

The ONLY time I will admit to wearing pajamas out is a few times when I dropped my kids off at school in the morning. I never got out of the car and I was also wearing a coat. Otherwise, I would NEVER wear pajamas anywhere I could be seen Yuck!

Nup, the worst I would venture out in now is my trackie pants.

Once I thought I would pop down the fish and chip shop one Sunday night in my fuzzy slippers and trackies. I almost made it out unnoticed, until just before the guy called my order ready, a man with a little girl around the age of 3 sat down next to me to wait. And she excalimed in the loudest child whisper ever - DAD, THAT LADY IS WEARING HER SLIPPERS OUTSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The man was mortified as everyone turned to look at my pink fuzzy slippers.

All I could do was smile, take my order and get the hell out of there. Last time I wore my slippers out in public!!!

My PJs are either sweats or yoga pants and a cotton shirt, and I''ve run to the store in them occasionally. Usually I throw on jeans first though.

Uh...no way. I don't think you should go shopping in the same clothes you sleep in.. It doesn't take that long to change into something more appropriate and presentable, really.

When I was younger I wore my leopard print slippers to make a late night store runs. I stopped doing it when I ran into someone I knew (At 1am), I was really embarrassed. I asked my 3yo daughter if she wanted to wear her pj''s to the store yesterday & her answer was no mom you don''t wear pajamas out, they are only for bedtime.

Not if they looked unambiguously like pyjamas.

If you WANT to wear your nightwear outside for whatever reason, why not just choose plain sweats to sleep in, that would also be acceptable in public? Why insist on flannel pants printed with little snowmen or whatever? It just draws attention to yourself and looks sloppy.

I sleep in: nighties or in the buff.

I went to school in: black yoga pants with a hoodie.

I go to the grocery store in: whatever I''m wearing, be it pajama pants or dress pants or a cocktail dress.

What I have found (because I like to people watch) is that in my particular area (we live 2 miles away from a university campus, and the grocery store is about that distance from it as well) is that you are just as likely to see someone in pajama pants as you are in regular clothes. I don''t care what I look like when I''m going to the grocery store, and I don''t care what other people look like either. But what people take notice of in the grocery store are the girls who are wearing super short skirts/dresses and wearing 5 inch heels.

Would I go to the grocery store in what I sleep in? No. But that''s because some of it is not fit for public viewing. Would I go in what other people think are my pajamas? Sure. They are comfy.

But this obviously changes culturally. Fascinating Delster about the cultural implications of hoodies and pjs.

well i don't wear 'pajamas' so yes i would go to the store in what i lounge around the house (and sleep in). which is: soft jersey lounge pants (VS) or fitted sweats or yoga pants and a jcrew thermal hoodie or something. i love jcrew's lounge stuff for sleep.

but if it's all torn and ratty i will def change. and usually put another sweatshirt or sweater or something on too, because i don't wear a bra at home, so it won't be fit for 'public consumption' without SOME type of modification.

or you can toss a knee length wool coat over whatever and generally make it presentable.

the real question is not about your clothes but what does your HAIR look like if you are wearing pajamas out and about ? hehee.

Personally, I don''t wear PJs to the store and never would, but I''m not offended when other people do. Most of the PJs I''ve seen in stores have been very modest and, as some previous posters have mentioned, you''d be hard-pressed to tell whether they are truly PJs or workout clothes.

BUT, this reminds me of an interesting story: DH and I were grocery shopping one day (at Wal-Mart, no less), and we saw a "lady" (and I use this term VERY loosely) who was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. The problem was, the t-shirt was very cropped and tight and evidently she hadn''t bothered to put a bra on. Oh and the jeans . . . they were EXTREMELY low-rise and there was a horrifying amount of plumber-crack. And no, she didn''t have a whale tail . . . evidently, her disdain for bras extends to underwear as well. I would estimate that she was in her late 40s and believe me, this was NOT a good look for her!

Oh, how I WISH that woman had worn pajamas instead!!!

I''m by no means a dress to the nines with full face of makeup shopper, but I at least throw on jeans before leaving the house. I HATE it when people wear their PJs out in public. It''s a serious pet peeve of mine. And most of the time the PJs are dingy and dirty looking, so gross!!!

I have sen my Dh there wearing his lounge pants before, which are plaid pajama type bottoms

But we live in a college town right near campus, so I figure it isn''t the worst thing they would see someone wearing by a long shot! LOL!

Most of my lounge pants are not jammy pants, just pants that come with a hoodie jacket. I have gone out to the store in them or workout pants. I will wear jammy pants (the obvious flannel kind) if I am sick and just running to the store for more dayquil/nyquil. I will not wear slippers though. I have a problem with wearing slippers in public. I also have made an early morning drive to drop off DH at his truck or something similar and have worn my nightgown and robe knowing that no one would see me.

Well that is if you are an American. Apparently this is something for we Americans. Which for the record, I am. But my mom taught me not to get caught in anything I wouldn''t want a doctor to see. (you know the quote about undies?) Well, I apply that same theory to my OVER-dies! I dress to impress the doctors!

I just had to run to Wal Mart and thinking of all of you did throw on a pair of jeans but wore my pajama top
with a coat over it. No it wasn''t flannel and didn''t have fuzzy bunnies on it. I didn''t see anyone there in jammies but I saw plenty of all sizes in pants that looked painted on.
