I have to admit I have been known to pick my husband up from his late shift in pyjama bottoms with a coat on... but I have never gone food shopping in pyjamas.

Ah, that would be me - PJ bottoms complete with fuzzy slippers, depending on the hour.



I guess I won't be shopping at Tesco... though if they are actually dealing with barefoot folk in dressing gowns and little else, I understand the objection.

Who cares what shoppers look like? Sometimes you have to run to the store late at night/early in the morning to pick up an essential item. I see no sense in dressing up to pick up a gallon of milk! I can''t imagine supporting that store if there are other shopping options near by. So silly!

Personally, however, I will not shop in PJs. Workout clothes, yes. PJs, no. Though I''ll be the first to admit there''s not much difference between the two.

I do think it''s kind of icky wearing nightwear out in public, depending on the clothing, of course.

Have I ever been shopping in my PJ''s? Sure, in college.

If I have to run out at an inconvenient time, I''ll throw on jeans or black house pants, etc. Would I keep on flannel pj looking pants, probably not.

Do I care what other people wear to the grocery store? Absolutely not.

I live in my pajamas. They aren''t always actual pajamas..sometimes they''re sweats or whatever, but I sleep in them, and I take London to school in them. I don''t always match. If it was a long night being kept awake by a certain small boy robot, I''m not changing my clothes to drive 2 blocks and drop her off, and then come home and change before laying back down again. I wear my penguin pajama pants to the store when I''m getting groceries or if I have to run out quick to get something, and don''t think anything of it. I don''t look like a weirdo like those emails w/the Walmart shoppers-I don''t wear a tutu or a bikini or see thru clothes.

I think there''s worse things in the world for people to worry about than a harried mom w/no make up on and in pajamas.

But my PJs are usually sweats. If I have on a nightgown (usually cotton and look like dresses) I will put on leggings or pants, or tuck them in, maybe toss a sweatshirt over. I''m always running to the store just to pick up some wine, something for dinner, or to grab a $1 movie from redbox... I just don''t see the need to get dressed. I don''t really care about the clothes, but I do sometimes feel that I should at least make an effort to make my hair look presentable. My hair is usually a fuzzy nest, and I leave the house like that far too often.

Uh, I have no problem going to the grocery store in flannel PJ pants and a tee shirt. I also don''t wear makeup at the gym

Exactly! I am a full time mommy with a toddler, some days I''m lucky if I can get all the graham crackers out of my hair. Do I care what I look like to some strangers while I buy laundry detergent? Nope!

Once I am home, I am in lounge wear, meaning pull on pants, and a cashmere sweater. If I needed to go out now to buy milk?? Would I be in violation of the fashion police?? This is a UK story , so will say let them have at it across the pond. I live in a college town, and all I see are kids in sweats and hoodies. I could care a less what anyone wears,....

Next thing will be what is in your shopping cart....

Never! I won''t leave the house in my jammies. I remember when I was a kid my friend''s mom was having car trouble after dropping her off at school. She was right in front of the school and smoke was pouring out from under the hood and she didn''t want to get out of the car because she was in her jammies and there were people everywhere. That stuck with me. I always dress, even if I''m not getting out of the car.

I sleep in the buff and I''m pretty sure that would fall under most dress codes That said - I wear ''shlupy'' clothes around the house and if I need to run out for something I have no problem being shluppy - but with a bra lol

Umm.. not *quite* pajamas but I definitely go in those sweatpants that I immediately put on every day after I get home from work.

I have no problems going in sweats and no makeup, HOWEVER... if its snowy out I dont want my comfy sweats getting salt on the bottoms so I throw on jeans.

I could not care less about what others are wearing. Its a grocery store!

Sara...did you read those threads? The door just may be a knocking...so be sure you look out the peep hole first...and grab a robe for goodness sakes! Just kidding.

NEVER!!! I have a phobia about getting in the car and not being "fully on". Watched too many cops episodes to see how women in curlers, robes, fuzzy slippers are treated by the emergency people. And then there is the fact that if I have put a little effort into my appearance, I feel if there is a collision or need of aid, my lack of effort in my appearance won''t be the deciding factor in the blame, or order in who is more deserving of medical attention. (she has to be under the influence and too blame for this...after all, she is wearing Hello Kitty slippers...WHO wears Hello Kitty Slippers?)

The fact is...People do judge, why give them free ammo?



sidebar: there was a time in some states it was illegal not to wear proper shoes when driving. So technically there is or was a dress code for the act of driving! That is still on the books for cycle riding.

I hate to admit it, but during my teen years in college I was occassionally known to run into the Store 24 in my PJs to grab a pack of cigarettes. Fortunately, I have since given up smoking, and my more slovenly ways. I chalk it up to teenage laziness.

I don''t wear pajamas pants, yoga pants or sweats anywhere but in my home. My most pajamay shirts are just long sleeved t-shirts from the regular clothing section, so yes, I have worn those on occasion.

I would never wear real pajamas or even the above-mentioned pants out, but I really don''t care if anyone else wears them. For it to be in a dress code, I''m assuming they''ve had much worse than flannel pants.

Ditto here. I see people, mostly teens at the grocery store in slippers and jammie pants all the time. Would I do it? No, absolutely not. Jeans and a ratty sweatshirt are about as dressed down as I am willing to go. Am I offended by it? No.

However, barefoot, in nothing but a nightgown? That''s a little extreme. There''s a big difference between flannel pajama bottoms and a T-shirt and barefoot in a nightgown, IMO.

I would never go into grocery store or any other store in pj''s however almost daily I drive my boys to school in my jammies-and I do worry that here in Michigan, where the roads are not well treated in inclement weather, that I''ll careen off the road and they''ll find me in my Hooters t-shirt and black cherry capri jammie bottoms...

I used to wear those plaid pj bottoms to the store when I was in college.

Now though, I would never do that. It takes two seconds to change into a pair of jeans.

Nope, I wouldn''t unless it was a complete, total emergency and I had NO TIME to spare. Otherwise... is it really that hard to throw on a pair of pants or jeans??? I can usually spare the three seconds.

Oh, and for the record, my definition of PJs does NOT include sweats, yoga pants, etc.

I agree with Curly Sue, pajama pants are pajama pants. Usually flannel or striped or patterned. You couldn''t mistake them for anything but PJs.

I joined a gym recently and I drive to and from in yoga pants, and if I have to stop at the grocery store, I will, but I also walk for exercise in yoga pants too, so I think people are used to seeing other people in work-out gear. I think yoga pants and colored tees are nice looking.
