Would you do layaway for a 2.5ct - 3ct OEC?

Hi Everyone,

If you find an OEC that you like, would you do it on layaway? Or would you just keep saving?

I am doing a layaway right now, but for a different stone, a heart shaped diamond for a pendant. I have been looking for a while, and this one really grabbed me and seems special to me! I found it before we were quite ready for a number of reasons, so decided to do the layaway.

If it’s “the one” or has a very rare quality (is a high color or has a specific facet pattern you’ve found hard to find or us just priced super well) then I’d put it on lay away.

You can also do some internet searches to see how rare something similar tends to be.

Are you worried something better will come along?

Y'know I'm going to want pics of that heart diamond ;)

It really depends on how much you love this particular stone, how likely you are to find another that you love as much- or maybe even more!

I'm not worried because usually when I find the one I like, that is IT.

There was an instance (a couple of months ago) that I like this ring very much (it was a very unique ring) and I was saving for it. All of a sudden it's gone. I asked the vendor and they said it is vintage so there is only one. Boy, do I learn my lesson. They offer to replicate it but they said it won't be an exact replica and that I may not like it. The ring has 2 oecs placed side by side. OEC is the last of my puzzle collection so I'd be done with that ring (cost less than $10K). The ring is gone now so I'm back on looking at oec.

I am collecting diamond shapes. I want CBI round, OMC, Octavia, Rose-cut and OEC. I have them all now, except OEC. I thought I finish my collection with a bang. :cheeky: 3ct is kind of a bang no?

Do you want to be done?

@Polabowla, I can't wait to share! I posted some pics on my other thread. I subsequently went to see it again, and couldn't let it go. I will post more once it is "fully" mine!

If it was my dream stone I absolutely would. Don’t let it get away!

Yes! Especially if I’d be sad if it sold

Yeah I would totally do layaway if it was my dream stone! The right ones are hard to come by and it would be very sad if I missed out.

Layaway is much easier to live with than regret!

Yes

i would for sure for “the one” ;)2

I too would opt for a layaway.

DK :))

If it is your HG OEC layaway all the way if you cannot buy it outright. Don't let it get away!

Definitely, because every OEC is so unique.

I missed out on 2 of my "dream" OECs that were J color because i hesitated (I had the money, just had trouble spending it!) and after 6 months of looking I got an "L" that I fell for, and I love it, but partly because there were no Js with the stats I wanted.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE LOVE LOVE my diamond, but there are moments I wonder if I should have held out for the "J" color i really wanted. Thankfully I have continued checking and I haven't seen anything I like better than my L but it just shows how rare it was for me anyway to find the "right" OEC for me.

Then, why not! Three carats is just borderline formal to me & I trust your taste with all else about it.

thinking out loud

Thanks for the support @missy By the way, what is HG?

HG=holy grail

Oh I see.... hahahahahaha I’m not good at abbreviations.

It is certainly a HG OEC.

Yassss! Please keep us posted and fingers crossed for you @joelly ! HG=Holy Grail=Hot Gem

Late to this thread but what is the return policy if you purchase through lay away? I saw your other post about the M and the seller claims it looks like a J and to me that seems like a red flag and I would worry that a lay away might not allow me to return if the M was really an M and i was expecting a J.

That’s not my stone. Someone else bought it.

But you have a good point which I haven’t thought about.
