Would you buy this 5 carat diamond?

My worries are primarily the inclusions. The diamond is priced well- about $18k. I have it on hold right now. I need some second opinions! Thank you so much!

If I didn't go for the pear, I would buy this one:

Which do you prefer??

I like the second one! The inclusions on the first would bug me.

what are you planning to do with it? if it's for an engagement ring or such i'd probably want the cleaner stone. if it's for an occasional wear cocktail ring or a pendant, then i might just want the bigger one despite the inclusions depending on the design in mind.

if the priority is size, and you can return the stone, maybe order the JA one and see if the inclusions bother you. they will be visible but they also look like they are bouncing around inside the stone which will give it a more random look which may or may not appeal to you.

even better if you can order them both and return one, your eyes will probably tell you immediately which one you really want. good luck!

I would by the pear and check it out in person. It’s a wonderful size for a great price. The video is magnified, so I’d personally give it a shot.

It would be a right hand ring, probably one I'd wear daily but I'm pretty extra haha

Dont like the first pear...evan without the inclusion. Nothing going for it except its a big diamond (color isnt that pretty, faceting pattern not that
nice AND its got a big inclusion)

So these arent as big but do look nicer

Stone #1: A fancy light yellow at that weight for that price is obviously being discounted heavily because of that knot which is on the pavilion, where grime builds up easily, and will be impossible to deal with having a knot there. Additionally, you have large, dark inclusions with mirror reflections that are quite obvious.

Stone #2 is a world of difference! You have no clarity issues to deal with and going for a Y-Z will be indiscernible from a Fancy Light yet is a great value. No one will know it’s not a Fancy Light except for you and your grading report (and us, of course lol!). I think a cushion is just a better shape, anyhow, because you will have more consistent color throughout, where in the case of the pear you will have concentration at the point. The cushion is beautiful. I know it’s not as large, but I personally think it’s large enough. Also, with the pear, you have the tapering so the largest part is only in one section, it’s not consistent size throughout as the cushion is.

I also think pear shape is very taste specific and unless you are a very committed pear lover, you may grow tired of it.

It has a big table and flat crown. When the table flash, it might "wash away" the yellow hue, not sure...

fwiw here's a big pear option w/ less visible inclusions

I really appreciate the feedback! I do agree that you tend to get what you pay for, and the pear has flaws that would likely continue to bother me for years to come. I think I'm 90% committed to going for the cushion!

Hmm that is a worry with a stone this light! So hard shopping online. I guess I'd have to order and take advantage of returns if it wasn't all I hoped for.

Neither.

There is this surprisingly strong Fancy Yellow at BN www & many Fancy Light & Fancy, etc. This is also a complicated stronger color www - I expect a shade of brushed green gold & would want to see, it is a larger three carat stone. Then, I would ask David for a pear, esp a light brownish yellow, or what he likes around four carats.

The inclusions of the pear would drive me bonkers.

Knot on the pavilion, and feather on the table -- all classified as I1 clarity. I'd want someone to lay their eyes on that stone that you trust for an unbiased opinion to confirm you don't have potential structural issues.

You put cushion on hold?

I would, too. It would sit up so big and who knows, maybe it's charming.

Another - www
