Would you buy a J colour stone?

Hello :)

I have a limited budget, but I really have my heart set on a 3/4 carat or larger stone. I'm considering this .80ct J VS2 Ideal cut stone. It has strong blue florescence, which I have heard will help to make the J stone look a little less warm in some light. Would you recommend going in this direction or should I follow the more conservative side of my brain and look for a smaller stone?

Depends how color sensitive you are. An ideal cut will face up pretty white so depending on your setting you might not notice much color. There's a couple recent threads on J color diamonds worth reading.

I love my J!

I would buy a J if I were trying to maximize size. I'm not color sensitive though...I actually have a small BGD J colored stone.

Is there anywhere you can go to see well cut J colored stones?

Edit - Can you tell us what your budget is to see if we can maybe find something in the "I" color range?

I Love my J, and it looks pretty icey white...sure, if I put it directly next to an H, it will show a tiny bit of warmth, but that never, ever happens. Some cuts show more warmth than others, I believe stepcuts, like Emeralds and Asschers may give off more warmth. If you are looking at a round you should be in good shape. If you are comfortable sharing your budget, there are quite a few wonderful experts who would be happy to help you!

Can you go to a B&M store in your area and look at a couple of ideal-cut J-color diamonds? Or, order the one you're interested in and have it shipped to you loose so you can check it out in various lighting conditions while still in the return period?

I've bought at least a half-dozen J-color diamonds, some ideal-cut and some well-cut antique diamonds - and I've returned all of them except for one rose-cut which I later sold on the preloved market - I see the appeal in terms of beauty and economics, but on my own hand it turns out I just don't care for J-color diamonds.

I personally would. I don't mind a bit of colour or warmth. You need to see some for yourself before you buy.
