Well, my e-ring is a copy of a ring that was custom made and than became a stock setting. It had all the elements I wanted in an e-ring, and I just made one small modification. I did not see the need to re-invent the wheel. Of course I would have not issue with someone "copying" my ring, but it is a basic solitaire setting that is fairly popular (at least when I got it in April). Unless someone told me outright, I would never even think that someone copied my ring, I would just assume they picked the design on their own, or were copying the original ring.
But if I made a custom piece, and did not hold the copyright (which I would never try to get), I would not mind if someone copied it. I would be flattered.
The way I see it is that this is a forum where people come to get ideas for future jewelry projects. Many of the posters are looking for inspiration. If you don't want your jewelry to be a source for that, you should not post it here.
