Would my deep diamond look better/worse in a bezel setting?

Hello, folks! It's been a long time since I've been on the boards. I've jumped online again to tap into your wisdom and knowledge. So here's the scoop. I am resetting my original ering diamond into a RHR setting which is being custom made as I type. Well, working on the CADs right now :) Anyway, the stone is a little on the deep side and it doesn't have a lot of fire. I've read deeper stones tend to show more leakage. I'm wondering if a bezel setting will have any impact at all on the overall look of my diamond. My fear is that it make look less firey than before. Thoughts and opinions appreciated!

Here's the specs:
Weight 0.52 ct.
Shape ROUND BRILLIANT
Color E
Clarity SI1
Measurements 5.14 - 5.11 x 3.26 mm
Depth 63.6
Table 56.0
Crown 15.8
Pavilion 44.0
Girdle THIN TO MEDIUM
Polish GOOD
Symmetry GOOD
Fluorescence NONE
Culet NONE

The HCA gave my stone a "Good" rating score of 5.

what do you mean when you say deep? does that mean it sinks in rather than push out of the setting? im still learning some of this terminology :-) my diamond is in a bezel setting and it is a real light show! i also have a similar bezel setting for another ring that is almost flat and it looks quite lovely.

worse

These images are based on the numbers posted, the real diamond may not look much like this and it is extreme but the concept is valid.
Top open setting, bottom closed setting.

I'd go with what Karl says. Also a 5 on HCA is not "good". Reject stones scoring higher than 2, and get idealscopes or ASETs for stones under 2. Dark stones due to light leakage don't shine as brightly as stones whose light is directed out into your eye.

Thank you all for your input! I really appreciate all your responses. Thank you, Karl, for your example pictures! You've answered my question!

This stone is a sentimental stone and I would never part with it. I know it's not the ideal beauty, but it deserves a setting worthy of it's sentimental value and I want to do all I can to enhance its charm. You all know what I mean :)

This leads me to my next question:
If I open the gallery of the bezel setting, would this diamond perform like Karl's "open setting" example? I really like the bezel setting look. Here's an example:

The deep stone's darker area is light leakage from the pavilion, the more you let light into the pavilion, the better it'll perform

The opening gallery in the bezel doesn't really let any light in so it wouldn't help much.

Before you reset it, have you considered having your stone recut to ideal proportions? It would still be the same stone, just better.

I asked that question 10 years ago. The advice was basically it wouldn't be worth the money spent to have the stone recut. It's only a half carat. Though, truth be told I've never priced such a service.

This stone will be set to be worn as a RHR. I don't care that the stone isn't a top performer. Already accepted her for what she is :) So it's just a matter of getting her a nice home to so I can finally wear her again!

I currently have a setting in design with Ivy & Rose. Just trying to come up with a setting that will make this diamond look it's best.

As gm89uk suggested, I'll ask about a setting that will let the most light into the pavilion.

Thank you, Karl, for your input again. It's been helpful in my direction of ring design.

Probably not worth it because they charge the same for a 1/2ct as a 1ct.

But then again if she is spending $$ on a setting, I rather have an awesome stone vs a setting that enhances it. I recut my original engagement stone (which was later stolen) that was less than a carat - it was worth every penny. With a deep stone, you will most likely not lose much(if anything) in diameter..I would contact BGD and see if they will entertain re-cutting it..

It's around $350 per (or under) a carat.
