Hello,
I bought my ring from good old gold a while ago, and occasionally I think about upgrading. I recently checked their offerings and there are two diamonds that are interesting to me, They seem to be priced less than other lower color and clarity rounds they offer and I’d like to know why.

I would love some insight and opinions if you have the time.
Thank you!

It may have to do with when the different stones were brought into their inventory. Diamond prices fluctuate.

They are not super ideal cut diamonds. Not sure if that is what you currently have, but these are not. Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples in cut quality before you decide to upgrade. They are calling these Platinum Select - did your current diamond have a title at GOG?

Ahh, I see. I assumed since they show AGS light performance at ideal that they were super ideal cut. I don’t understand how they are not both.

Mine does have a cut grade of AGS 0 Ideal.

Look at their H&A images.

Okay yes, that does make it clear. Thank you!
I’m not sure how they are saying it has AGS ideal light performance if it’s not AGS ideal, that threw me.

They are AGS Ideal. I think what may be confusing is that AGS Ideal does not mean H&A.

Exactly what @tyty333 said: you can have ideal light return without perfect symmetry (so AGS000 without being "hearts and arrows"), perfect symmetry without ideal light return, or neither, or both.

It may be worth asking for a 'real life' comparison of one of those to a H&A to see if the extra symmetry is worth it to you.

That’s good to know.

Diamonds that are graded by GIA today that qualify for AGS Ideal will or should have an addendum added to the GIA grading report. GIA acquired AGS and do offer that addendum. The diamonds you listed have older GIA reports and would have completely separate AGS grading reports in that time frame.

Another thing I didn’t know. It’s been a bit since I’ve looked into it.

Good luck with your upgrade. Always feel free to post potential diamonds here for feedback before purchase!
