Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a Pear Cut Ruby ring. After some thought I would like to showcase the Ruby more as it’s such an nice quality Ruby.
I was thinking something similar to the attached photo with more diamonds in the halo and having the Pear sit upright. What do you guys think? My pear is 6mm by 11.8mm and the one I’d like to copy is 6.3mm by 14mm. Feel free to show me some other settings you have seen that you like.
Thanks
Wendy

I only have 2 inspirations for pears, a 3-stone:

And as a solitaire, which I believe would work with an added halo:

I much prefer the horizonal setting, which I assume is how it's currently set. With the pear set vertically, I would be bothered by the bowtie effect. In my personal estimation, >=95% of pear cut gems, even ones considered well cut, will show a bowtie in the N-S orientation, so long as the stone is high quality and transparent. The bowtie in the inspiration photos does not appear because the stone depicted is not that transparent and is not as lovely as your ruby in tone.

Have you checked your ruby in the N-S orientation? Is it bowtie-free?

It's a little "fishy" E/W -- almost religious-looking but maybe it's just that ring with the flower motif at the "tail" end...?

I'd probably just put a halo on it, with more diamonds on the band. Like your avi e-ring. I feel like rings easily get too busy looking. So I usually prefer to err on the side of simplicity. JMO

I'm not sure what you mean by "showcase". The current setting is unique and interesting, and definitely draws the eye. And frankly, there's not a lot you can do with such a ruby to "hide" it, it's always going to be showcased, it's always going to be centre of attention. :D

If you're just not too fond of the current setting and want to switch it for something you'll wear more, and thus looking for ideas, this is my favourite design for a pear I've found so far:

It's clearly a whale, which is mammal, not a fish. Fish heads are way pointier whereas whales and orcas have a rounded head.

Thanks no there is no bow tie effect with the Ruby. I just got a quote for $7000 AUD to reset it. Think I’ll just enjoy it as it is.
