Worth considering a stone that scores 5.1 on HCA?

Hello all,

I've posted a bunch now and of course have another question that I would appreciate any guidance on.

Stone scores a 5.1 on the HCA tool. Is it worth considering? Tool says if price is my only concern and price is definitely one of many concerns. It's being offered at $8,500 (including platinum solitaire setting). I saw it today and it looks like it gives off solid light return.

Stats I was able to grab during a short visit to the store:

1.2 ct H SI1
Depth - 61.8%
Table - 60%
Crown Angle - 33
Pavilion Angle - 41.6
Measurements - all I could get was 6.82
GIA - X polish, X symmetry, VG cut

Is it worth considering at $8,500?

Thanks for any help!

Start with GIA Excellent cut only. Then use the HCA to screen those. We normally recommend giving further consideration to stones that score 2.0 or less on the HCA, but there are stones in the 2.0-2.5ish range that are fine, too. I would not consider the stone you listed.

Too simple, whilst I would be wary of the 41.6 pavilion angle there are many stunning and unique stones that are over 5 on the HCA. Totally agree though that an excellent GIA cut is going to be noticeably brighter than a VG cut. If the above stone had, say a 41.4 pavilion angle then this would bring it into "excellent".
