So, I''ve been lurking and I''ve even posted looking for advice on a 10 year anniversary sapphire ring and what do you know but I found one!!!!! A friend of mine is desperate to buy a car (she has 3 kids and her car just broke down). She went through all her stuff and pulled out this beauty. She didn''t know the stats because she got it from an ex-BF. But she said that her jeweler look at it and said it was custom made with handset stones. I''m going to have my jeweler look at it as well, but had to share since so many of you helped me with advice earlier. I took some pictures today.

I love the antique setting, I can''t to double check with my jeweler and if it turns out to check out, get it all prettied up! And well, I''m helping a friend out too, so it''s just bonus for all of us. She loves the ring, but is happy to know it''s going to someone who will love it as much as she did.

I don''t know how to post more than one picture at a time so here we go.

I think I hear crickets...is it just a slow afternoon or is something terribly wrong with this ring and everyone is afraid of hurting my feelings?

HAD I SEEN THIS EARLIER I WOULD HAVE BEEN CHIRPING AWAY WITH YOU TOO!!!!!!!!

It is BEAUTIFUL!

It is beautiful. BUT let me make one comment...PLEASE get this appraised from someone who specializes in colored stones (this does NOT mean most jewelers, this means an independent appraiser). Just in case...you don''t want to pay for a real sapphire if it by chance is synthetic.

But the ring really is beautiful and I hope it all checks out!

Thank you, thank you, thank you - I am just thrilled. I have an appointment on Monday and I''m just thrilled, thrilled, thrilled! I''m SO a convert to colored stones and thankful that my hubby encouraged me in this direction. When I put it on, I just couldn''t stop looking at it. I was reading on one of these threads and remember hearing "the ring will just ''speak'' to you" and boy did this one, loud and clear!

That''s a great ring! Love the color of the sapphires; they are a really beautiful blue!

Beautiful ring!!! I hope it all checks out. It looks wonderful on you!!! Love that blue, and it is a gorgeous setting!!

Thank you Fly Girl! I''ll let y''all know what I find out on Monday!

Ohhh, I TOTALLY forgot to ask, but just as a off question, do y''all think I''ll be able to size this down one full size? It''s a 6.75 and I need a 5.75. Here''s a really blurry picture I had my friend take...

Congrats on the beauty and keep us posted! I would take it to a really good jeweler to make sure it does not compromise the setting.

I sure do LostSapphire. After seeing your avatar and posts in other Colored Stone threads I just have to add my "I''m so sorry" about losing your e-ring. It was absolutely stunning! I can''t wait to see what you end up having made. Since my foray into colored stones I can''t imagine anything else now.

It''s a GORGEOUS ring!!!! I really hope that everything checks out ok for you and we get to see lots more pics!

Beautiful ring! I agree with Skippy re confirming the sizing issue. Congratulations on your anniversary-way to go!

Oh wow, if my ex bf had given me that he probably wouldn''t have become ex!
I hope it is real, that is a fantastic blue.

Pretty ring, I love the setting!
Good luck on Monday, I hope it all checks out for you!

Absolutely gorgeous ring!!

Very pretty! Congrats!

How beautiful!

Oh my.. That is one pretty ring!

This is a very strange coincidence, and it may not mean anything, but I had read this post and admired this lovely ring and right after that I was checking my email and there was a banner ad for a company I had never heard of showing this exact ring (I have attached the ad). I did a quick search and couldn''t find it on their website. Please just be very careful and get a reputable appraisal to be sure of what you are getting.

The melee look green to me in teh first pic?

OH NO! Thank you so much NovemberBride! I ended up having to drop the ring off at my jewelers where he is looking over it right now. He travels between the 3 stores this family owns and I''m suppose to go in tomorrow to talk with him. He''ll be on vacation next week so I am praying he doesn''t push me off till he gets back. I called again today to make sure and they said he should be bringing it then.

I have NOT heard good things about Bidz! Has anyone? I guess I''ll find out for sure and let you all know what I find out. I''ve GOT to call my girlfriend. EEK!

Of course, I still LOVE the ring, and probably will still buy it but what it is will definitely determine how much I offer her for it. I wonder if she knows??????

The ring is beautiful, but given that Bidz add, if you are planning on paying more than a few under dollars for the ring, then I still ditto neatfreaks suggestion that you get an independent, qualified appraiser to look at the ring (not a jeweler who may or may not know anything about colored gemstones). I hope it checks out!

It is lovely!

Well, whatever happens with it, it is a beautiful ring! I love it!

OK! Here''s the deal...her ex DID buy it on Bidz last year. In the meantime my jeweler was able to confirm that it is a 2.2 ct synthetic sapphire in 10K WG - the diamonds are real. It also bears a FLI mark inside if anyone knows who that might stand for.
Of course, I''m a little disappointed as I ended up finding it on eBay as well, BUT at just over $100 I still bought the ring from my friend as I just love the design. Looks like she won''t be earning as much money toward her new car and well, it may not be the BIG 10 year anniversary ring, but it''s lovely and for that price, I just can''t complain.

THANK YOU to all you LOVELY people out there for the warnings and just the concern. Here are the last of the shots taken after it was all spiffied up by my jeweler.

Through all of this I got to know my jeweler better, found some new things to add to my list of "somedays" (concave cut sapphires from Richard Homer anyone?!) and best of all, found a safe place to check things out and LEARN!
First shot - the bathroom!

Second shot - bathroom lighting again - still sparkly & pretty in less than ideal conditions!
