i vote for curvy, but right now im like a plump banana!
I really like DKNY jeans. they have lasted quite awhile and look pretty good on.

Huh. According to this I''ve got an hourglass shape. I don''t really feel very curvy. I don''t have very big boobs or hips (which I feel make the perfect hourglass shape). I do have a small waist, but I also have very broad, bony shoulders.

So I s''pose I''m a shoulder-heavy hourglass. If there is such a thing.

Hourglass for me! I think I'm fairly well-proportioned - I have breasts, hips, butt in good proportion and a pretty small waist (well not since being pg). My mother's shape to a T.

I''m definitely a pear shape. When I gain weight, it''s always in the areas described and never where I''d rather it go, like my chest. I want to switch body types.

Hourglass! My bust and hips are just about 10" larger than my waist. My bust is 1/2" larger than my hips. It''s always been really tough finding pants that fit so my mom would just sew in darts to take in the waist of all my jeans. Now a lot more places carry "curvy" lines.

Definitely pear - my hips are 14" bigger than my waist, and I''m an A/B-cup. But strangely enough, I don''t *look* all that pear-shaped. Seamstresses are always floored when they measure my hips, because they just don''t look as big as they are. And I also have broad, muscular shoulders (that I''m very proud of), which helps to offset the hip size.

BTW, no way in heck do I believe that only 20% of women are pear-shaped. It''s definitely the most common female body type that I see walking around.

I''ll own up to it - I''m an apple. Jeans aren''t made for me, either. After reading everyone''s responses, I''m kindof wondering which shape they ARE made for!

A *lot* of people confuse pear shape with hourglass. Most people that claim to be hourglass are really pear shape.

I dunno, that''s just what the wiki thing said!

I definitely believe it, for my area, at least. Now that I know the technicaly breakdown, I realize that the vast majority of women I see look like "bananas," followed by pear, then apple. It''s very rare that I see a true "hourglass" shape as defined by that link (well, one that''s all-natural, anyway
3.gif
). So it at least holds true in my area!

Bananas! Which would make sense if they really are the most common shape, as the study (and my personal experience) suggests.

Actually it is really hard to tell the difference between a pear and an hourglass. For example, if you look up pear shaped celebrities vs hourglass celebrities, you''ll find that celebrities are catergorized in each. Kristin Davis is said to be a pear in one site while in another she''s an hourglass. The same with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Scarlett Johansson and even Beyonce.

Chest is +10 inches from the waist, and hips are +11 inches. Yup, hourglass (if a little chubby right now, lol).

My point exactly - though when you know actual measurements, it's easier. I was saying that I was one of the "most people [who] claim to be hourglass." I didn't know the rules behind it, and everyone always called me that, so I assumed that's what I was. Not even close though, since my bust and hip measurements are 4" off from each other. It's those darn teeny boobins!

This is where I'd put the celebs you mentioned:

Kristin Davis: Pear
Catherine Zeta-Jones: Pear
Jennifer Love Hewitt: Hourglass
Scarlett Johansson: Hourglass
Beyonce: Pear

Just based on their appearance, but since I don't know their measurements, who knows!

ROUND

What? That''s a SHAPE too!
11.gif

ETA: I''m definitely hour-glass. My waist is the smallest part of my body.
DITTO.
9.gif

I am supposed to be an hourglass...that's my 'good weight' shape... Right now I'm more like a stack of donuts...does that count as a shape????
21.gif
I guess, right now, my 'hour glass' has room enough for a few extra hours...(I'm working on it though)..
21.gif

And, as far as the 'hour glass' shape vs. 'pear' goes, I think it has a lot to do with shoulder width, as well as bust measurements...I have wide shoulders and am busty and when I'm at my normal weight, I have a small waist and curvy hips. I don't think it's the bust size alone that makes a true hourglass though...what about women who have a larger bust, but small shoulders? That may not be the 'real' definition of an hourglass shape, but IMO, the width of the shoulders play into the overall shape as well.
2.gif
Maybe that's what confuses some women about the pear/hour glass thing.

^^ as far as measurements go, the shoulders don''t play in... though I''d bet that most of the time, the proportions are there.

I''m a total ectomorph, long and lean. I don''t gain weight easily. I guess I''m closest to a banana but I do have a waist line so I don''t know.

Yep I realize that now, officially shoulders don''t add in to the body type, but IMO, a ''true pear'' could look more like an hour glass, if she had wider shoulders, which is why there could be confusion about what body type they really are. I guess I just never thought about it before now, for myself anyway, because I have wider shoulders and am busty, LOL, I never thought about just the ''girls'' being the main factor in being hour glass or pear shaped...interesting!
2.gif
I will now classify myself as both wide shouldered AND hour glass, now that I know the two aren''t necessarily part of the same type!

And, not that any of it matters...DH loves me as is, no matter the current shape and that''s what counts!!

Thanks for the compliments. The pic was taken on the deck of our family house on the lake. I was trying to yank DF's chain by finding a pic that would show the hourglass but no skin.

I always thought I was hourglass but by those measurements I''m a pear. My waist is 12" smaller than my hips and 10" smaller than my bust.

Hmm... this confuses me now! My hip to waist ratio puts me as either a pear or hourglass... but apparently I don''t have the boobs to call myself an hourglass b/c they''re not the same measurement as my hips. My shoulders are well proportioned to my hips so I always felt my body had an hourglass shape (minus the bigger chest), but I suppose I''m just a pear without the narrow shoulders. Who knew? Interesting thread!

Pear? Tiny, but curvy. 33-25-35 (104 lbs) shopping is hard.
I''m pear too (Ithink)

BTW, LAJennifer I saw the pictures that you posted a while back of you in your wedding dress - your dress looked gorgeous

Marshmallow! Is that a choice????

Definitely a pear.

Waist is 9" smaller than my hips, but my bust is 4" smaller than my hips.
