Pfft. You don''t know me as well as you think if you think that.

But then again, I don''t think it''s funny...I think it''s sweet!

Don''t worry, I was just kidding! Thanks, dear.

Wishful! I loved reading about how you met your wife!

I also am not a big movie fan, and prefer TV, too! I don''t know why...I think I have a pretty good attention span, but most movies are too lame to hold it for more than 30 minutes!

As for TV, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Law & Order, too! SVU is my favorite and it doesn''t hurt that Elliot (Christopher Meloni) is a DREAMBOAT. Hahaha...I have a huge crush on him! I''m not as obsessive as I used to be about watching SVU, but for a while there I was watching it all the time! And my fiance is not a fan of it either, although he doesn''t mind as much now that I don''t watch it constantly.

I also love Top Model, although Project Runway has kind of pushed it out of my heart somewhat. And I am really into house shows since I want to buy a house SO BAD. Okay, enough about me...this thread is about you!

Tell us more...what''s your favorite food? Favorite animal? Favorite article of clothing? Favorite beverage?
Yes! I totally agree. I''m glad I''m not the only anti-movie freak in this world. DW looooves movies and is a film buff... I suck in comparison.

Law and Order is like crack for me. Seriously. The best part is that it''s on ALL the time! I can just flip through the channels and find one with some version of it playing. I love Elliot and Olivia. I definitely have a bit of a crush on her. Between her and Elliot there''s something for everyone.
2.gif
Project Runway is awesome! I forgot that one. I haven''t watched it in ages, but I love to when I get the chance. I am SO, so excited to hear about your house endeavors! Feel free to share as much as you are willing! This thread is no fun if it''s *all* about me.
20.gif

My favourite food is mashed potatoes with gravy. Followed closely by Thai style yellow curry, deviled eggs, and potato salad... and pasta! I love carbs.
My favourite animal is a llama. I love llamas! I think they''re sassy because they spit on annoying people and pee in this really funny way. That is such a dorky thing to admit to...
I have never considered my favorite article of clothing. I''m pretty sure it''s this really cute pink turtleneck sweaterdress that I love for winter. I wear it as often as I feel like I can get away with! Tights and sweaterdresses are saving my life in snowy W. Mass.
My favourite beverage is rootbeer or mango smoothies.

This is so hard! I have way too many favorite books. I think my favorite book of ALL time would have to be A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. That book and the two others in the direct trilogy, A Wind in the Door and A Swiftly Tilting Planet are just fantastic. What fascinated me the most about them was that L'Engle created this whole amazing world for her characters. I just love stuff like that. On a more adult note, I am a fan of most things academic. My favorite grown up book is probably The Human Condition, by Hannah Arendt. It blew my mind. I also really adore Catherine MacKinnon, although saying that in mixed company usually gets me in trouble! I think she's brilliant, though, especially her Toward a Feminist Theory of the State.

Movie... this is hard. I already admitted *gasp!* that I'm not the biggest fan of movies. Odd, I know. In terms of something fun I have to say But I'm a Cheerleader tops the list. I have a softspot for stupidly cute things like Legally Blonde, and psychological horror flicks a la Silence of the Lambs. I will pretty much watch anything, though. Recommendations from the peanut gallery?

Please get out of my head. I freaking LOVE A Wrinkle In Time, and Silence is my favourite movie of all time, though I have a huge soft spot for silly movies with an "I can do whatever I want" attitude a la Legally Blonde. And But I'm a Cheerleader is this week's movie from Netflix.

Seriously, Twinnie. It's getting kind of creepy.

Well. We had known each other for awhile because we both started out majoring in International Relations... and both subsequently switched majors.
3.gif
We had a close mutual friend who introduced us more intimately a few times and we hung out in groups of friends a few times too. A few years ago a lot of people at our school were participating in the Day of Silence [students who participate stay silent for the day in remembrance of those who were victims of anti-LGBTQ violence as well as drawing attention to the silence and invisibility the queer community faces every day], and we''d planned to participate as well. However, that same morning the US Supreme Court handed down their decision in Gonzalez v. Carhart and we were both so freaking pissed that we couldn''t stay silent and needed to talk about it. Everyone around us didn''t want to talk and break the silence, so we talked to each other! And talked... and talked... and set up a date to watch a movie in one of the nice rooms in the library one night. When we got there we completely forgot to watch the movie and talked for seven hours about all sorts of stuff, and eventually were kicked out of the library when it closed. We went back to my room and the rest was history.
31.gif
We moved in together informally pretty much the next day and it was instant clickage.
9.gif
She is great. She studies Critical Social Thought undergrad and just got accepted to an awesome Feminist Studies PhD program. We''re moving to California!
36.gif

Twinnie, you''re way too cute! I''m miserable at Day of Silence. Silent is not a word that will ever describe me.

Critical Social Thought, huh? You two must be a fascinating couple to be around.
I am so hard to make silent! I am a loud mouth and I like it.
12.gif
Wifey is a true genius. Critical Social Thought majors are awesome to talk to. You should come hang out with us. I keep telling her how much she would like you!

I think The L Word is awesome, but it''s a hard show to recommend. It''s really easy for me to fall into liking it because no matter how stupid and corny it is or how irritating the plotline or characters, I have no alternatives when it comes to watching my life on TV. I either watch the lesbians in The L Word, or I don''t watch a show that reflects at least remotely my life. So I watch it. I think they bank on the queer community being desperate enough to *have* to watch the show that they don''t feel they have to keep it interesting all the time. It''s a bit soft-core *ahempornahem*-ish, so beware. That said, they''re all totally hot... even my straight friends think so and apparently like to watch the endless steamy scenes.
20.gif
It''s entertaining, though! Especially the earlier seasons. You should give it a try, but if you hate it don''t blame me, kay?

Song? Yikes! My taste in music is far from refined. I am a fangirl of such noted musical geniuses as Death Cab for Cutie and other whiny emo bands of that ilk.

Love it. My favorite song overall is probably Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol because it's 'our song' [with S!] so when I hear it I get giddy.

Day of the week is FRIDAY!! I never have classes on Friday because I'm a spoiled Social Sciences student and our profs only schedule during the 'real' week.

It's also the beginning of the weekend, which is obviously nice. I imagine my love of Fridays will continue even when I am forced to become a real person with a job... it seems to be a general trend among people who work that Fridays are great!

Oh, and questions:

Mac or PC?

Favourite class?

Guilty pleasures?

Dream vacation?
So eerie! I knew I loved you for a reason!
30.gif

PC... but really only because I can''t afford a Mac. I love my Dell and its served me well with not a single problem in 4 years, but I will need a new computer soon because it''s just plain getting old. If I could afford the Mac I''d buy it because I like the visual designs better, but the PC will be less expensive and probably work the same, so the Mac will have to wait!
Favourite class ever, or right now? Favourite class EVER was my class on Hannah Arendt. It was taught by my favourite professor of all time. She is such a genius and made Arendt fun and easy to understand and really solidified my love for Political Theory as a discipline. My favourite class right now is probably my independent study where I write my thesis, although I have favourite professor teaching one of my classes right now. It''s modern political thought... I hate Hobbes and Locke, so no luck there!
My guilty pleasures are numerous. They usually include doing things I know are not compatible with my core values, like watching crappy shows or using sexist slang or listening to music with offensive lyrics. I call them my "non-Feminist/or insert other belief system here pleasures." Or eating things I know are horrible for me, like cake. I love cake.
Dream vacation would be to Paris. S has always wanted to go to Paris and has never been able to travel outside of the US and Canada. I would love to be able to take her to all the places she has dreamed of seeing. Next on the list and especially for me would be something amazing and tropical where we could be lazy and pampered.

Hi iluvcarats! Thank you. It's so great you're reading AWIT to your kids! I read it to my youngest step-sister a few years ago and she loved it-- it made me so happy to be able to share that with her!

It is fun. They love to look up all the words that they don't know in the dictionary. Some of them are so *scientific* they aren't even in there! AWIT and Phantom Tollbooth are two of my favorite books from childhood.
I am sure you made your step sister happy too. There is something so lovely about reading out loud, and being read to.

Just curious - does DW share your passion for jewelry?

Your kids sound so cute and inquisitive! I love that about kids. L''Engle is a great mix between science and fantasty-- it''s so funny how some of her terms are very high-science and advanced real-world concepts, and they''re all mixed in with a bunch of made-up fantasy "science" terms. She does this a lot in A Wind in the Door.

DW is not that into jewelery. She does love her engagement ring, though! I think she is getting into it more and more as I insist on showing her shiny beautiful things all the time. She will indulge me in going jewelery shopping and such! All in all I think I''ve brought out a lot of her "femme" side, and although she pretends to protest she secretly loves it.
9.gif

Wishful,

Do you and DW want kids? Pets?

Do you have siblings?

Yay WT has her very own thread. I love WT!!!

Love, Linda
xoxoxox

Hi Linda!! Thanks, sweetie. I love you too!

Hmm, Trill. No kids, we think. I sort of want them, but DW doesn''t right now. I think in the end the expense of having to create children when none can be magically made or otherwise acquired
31.gif
is going to make it more difficult than we want to deal with. For people who truly want a child it''s worth it, but already being tepid it''s almost a "welcome" complication, if that makes sense. No "oops!"
3.gif
I''m also truly freaked out by the idea of passing on to a kid all the difficulties of having *us* as their parent... it seems like a shit thing for a kid to deal with. I already get freaked out by the level of hatred we feel from a lot of people, and I''m an adult. It sounds stupid/whiny, maybe, but it''s a scary thought.

Pets yes, though! We''re both in love with Pomeranians, so we will probably be getting a little fuzzy fox-dog of our very own as soon as we can afford to live someplace that will allow us to have pets!
30.gif
So exciting!

I have one biological sister who is 16 months younger than I am and NOTHING like me. I also have younger 3 ex-step-siblings [through my dad], and I am still in touch with some of them, and two current step-siblings [through my mom] who are just slightly older than I am. It''s sort of a crazy family configuration, but for the vast majority of my life it was just me and my sister.

I really enjoyed reading all about you, AND I enjoy all of your posts!! And I LOVE LOVE to watch Law and Order too! You sound like such a smart cookie!

Thanks, Sarah. It's hard sometimes to get over that fear. I am just sick of people sometimes. Today I wish I could hibernate away until everything was looking up.

They set a court date for Prop 8 challenge: March 5th. We will know by June 5th if we're still legally married... I feel like there's a constant lump in my throat that's been there since election day and I'm so afraid that things will get even worse. If anyone has a minute it'd be awesome to visit this link to sign a petition to the court and see the Courage Campaign's video. Tissues on hand, though. It made me cry my eyes out. I wish this was over.

Me neither. I can''t stop thinking about it and it''s becoming this sad dark cloud over my life. It sounds dramatic, but that''s what it feels like. Thanks for the support. I find it a lot easier to respect people with differing beliefs and opinions when the beliefs and opinions in question have some actual effects on wider society. Otherwise I honestly don''t see why people care so darn much. I wonder how many people who voted "Yes" on Prop 8 even know that the oral argument date is March 5th, or who would be paying attention to the date the decision is handed down if it weren''t broadcast all over the news. Those dates will be marked in history and my life as something that really truly mattered and affected me, and everyone''s who was not directly affected will be living the exact same life regardless of the outcome. Okay, rant over! Really, truly, thank you for the support.

My favourite color is purple and has been since I was a very little kid. It''s since been encroached upon quite a bit by my beloved color pink, but purple will always win out due to the longevity of my obsession!

I agree 100%, not sure why people care so much.
7.gif
..try not (I know this sounds impossible) to worry about it too much..in that don''t let it make your life sad, you and DW have great things ahead. Even if the result does not come in your favor (which would be ridiculous to say the least) you and DW will be married in your hearts until we can get this worked out. I do believe that we will see some sort of civil unions or gay marriage in our lifetimes, I would be extremely surprised if it didn''t happen. Granted our lifetimes could be a long time (or hopefully will be if we''re healthy), but if things fall apart then you just have to keep on fighting and not let yourself get weary no matter how tempting it may be with all the naysayers and unkind people around trying to beat you down. As long as you know in your heart you''re fighting for the right thing, and keep fighting, that''s all that matters. Keep your head up, fight for what you believe in, and never let someone else knock you down.

Btw I also am a purple

er! However, pink finally overtook purple for me. Pink won! Lolol. As I speak though I am wearing purple penguin PJs (called "Baked Alaska" mind you, gotta love them) with a pink tank top). Okay, so do you like decorating at all? What''s your favorite online shopping site? I''ve been apt shopping for a new apt hopefully soon and I am trying to decide what kind of furniture if we can afford it. I''ll figure something out.

lol, not to sound sexist, but when you are looking at dogs, ask about gender differences in temperament. My last dog was a boy, and he was sweet as the day is long, and so laid back, he was PERFECT! Enter on the scene my current DIVA. My goodness! I thought, hey, I am a girl, I should have a girl dog, and we can hate on boys together when they are being stoopid! Now, I asked the breeder about gender differences, and they said that the girls were more affectionate, more attentive, and more "bitchy". Yes, they literally said that. And she is. Mama has a LOT of ATTITUDE! (yes, I call her ''Mama'') Don''t get me wrong, I LOVE my dog, but the more I talk to people, the more I hear about moody females, which is pretty hilarious when you think about it. Just some friendly advice...

I''ll ditto that! Miss. Georgia is definitely a DIVA and she''s got so much attitude sometimes she even shakes her booty when she walks.

Thanks Sarah. We are trying! I think pink might be overtaking me as well...

I am wearing a pink college sweatshirt right now. I love the concept of decorating, but I fear I have no talent! For online shopping I prefer jewelery and books. I am pretty into etsy right now and all of the neat things being sold there. I love creative people who can make beautiful things! What sort of furniture do you like, Sarah? Share more about your apartment shopping!

Trill, I''ve heard that about dogs too! We will definitely ask about gender differences and temperament, but having a girl dog is non-negotiable with DW. She is sold on having a little "baby girl." We won''t mind a diva at all.... hopefully! She will be an only "child," so that might help in terms of affection demands, etc. So cute that you both have DIVAAA doggies! They''re both gorgeous, too.

I get more and more excited all the time about getting a pet, finally!

Wishful Thinking come up to Canada and I can set you up with someone who can marry you and make it stick, one of the things we Canadians have to be proud of.

etsy although I haven''t bought anything (yet)! I plan on buying the cuff links for groomsmen as gifts from there. There are some super cool nerdy ones!

Oh I love dark wood! Woah that sounds naughty..I mean dark wood furniture of course. Lol.
31.gif
What kind of furniture do you like? I wish I could afford like all pottery barn and crate and barrel style stuff..buuuut uh I doubt that one. So I''ll just try. What kind of dog are y''all getting? I want a puppy soooo bad!
30.gif
If I go to the one law school we have to choose between really nice apartment (with slightly short commute) and no pet or older apartment (also cheaper) w/ a pet. Sigh. Lol. Confusing right? I feel sorry for FI to have commute..but he swears he "doesn''t mind." I just don''t want him to leave his job if at all possible in this economy.
14.gif
He will also need a new car..his poor old car has lasted a long time, but can only take so much more I am sure. Lol. Every time we turn around there is something else we have to fix or happens to the poor car; case in point some lady hit his car last night and knocked out the tail light. But when things like that happen I''m glad it''s not a newer car!

I am rambling. Lol. Anyone asked you your fave kind of music or more specifically top 5 fave bands?

Just wanted to pop in to say, WishfulThinking, I''ve really enjoyed your posts too! In fact, when my partner and I were thinking about marriage and trying to figure out our plans, we found some of your threads really inspirational! Particularly the beautiful wedding pictures you posted -- they helped us realize we really wanted the whole formal white gown symbolism for our ceremony, too.

I think what''s happening in California is heartbreaking, and that Courage Campaign video you posted above really captures that. In fact, we had intended to get married in California too, but wanted to wait to see what happened in the November election first. We were pretty devestated by the results and wound up going to Massachusetts instead. I hope the California Supreme Court comes through and lets happily married people stay that way. Sending good thoughts your way!

Oy, sorry to have been absent! School is keeping me occupied. Ugh. 11 weeks to go!

Scorpioanne, I would love to come up to Canada! We''ve been trying to devise ways to move to CAN for ages, but it seems expensive to immigrate, what with the restrictions on work, etc. So complicated. You should definitely be proud! Canada is a very cool place for many reasons. I am a great admirer of yours.

Hi Sarah! Mmmmm, Pottery Barn! I love stuff like that.
30.gif
Someday when I have more $$$ in my life.... I get you will come up with nice stuff, though. I love dark wood [hahaha!!] and so does S. We have the same decorating tastes, which is helpful. What does your FI think of your choices? Or does he not really care? Hah. Right now I am really, really sold on nice beds. Seriously, we sleep in a dorm twin size bed. It sucks beyond belief.

For dogs we really want a Pomeranian. They are so cute! Puppies are so adorable, especially little breed puppies. So tiny and cute. Aww! I am so sold on the idea of having a pet. Your apartment options sound pretty good, though. Will you be able to take Georgia with you? I bet your FI is happy to commute. You going to law school is important! He sounds like a sweetie for sure. I feel you about the car. At least it wasn''t new, huh?

Bleh. For music I like really corny stuff... Death Cab for Cutie is pretty much my fav., and I love Of Montreal. I am obsessed with music from Broadway shows, though. Right now I''m fixated on Spring Awakening because the music is so pretty, but I am pretty obsessed with Wicked and a bunch of others.

Hi there, lovinsparkles! Thanks for stopping by. I saw a few of your threads but I didn''t see any of your wedding pictures. Do you have a thread? Sorry to be so nosy! I''m glad our posts could help you, and thank you for the compliment about our pictures!! Congratulations on your marriage. I hope you and your partner are doing well. I am so stressed about the CA thing. I am trying not to freak out, but it''s really hard not to. I''m glad you were able to get married in MA. I''m so glad the old law about marrying couples from out of state has been abolished. It was so ridiculous. Where do you live? We actually live in MA right now, but since we''re moving to CA this summer it doesn''t help us one bit to have a MA marriage license. At least this way we might have a chance of remaining recognized even if Prop 8 is upheld. It makes me not want to move to CA, though. At least in MA where we live now and where I grew up I feel somewhat respected. Thanks for all of the good thoughts! Sorry for not responding to your post with the "Fidelity" video in ATW... I just can''t bring myself to talk about ss marriage in there anymore. People have been so unbelievably out of line and disrespectful in the past that I''m afraid to really say anything about it. I was impressed at how civil the thread was until RA posted in it. I am using all of my willpower not to respond.

Hey thanks for the compliment

. I showed your wedding pics to my practicum student and she was just about in tears, she said the love that you have for one another is so evident. It was so sweet, she kept saying "awww". I recognise that it is not often she gets to see herself reflected in images so it made me happy to show her (not to mention your pics are so beautiful). She is such a romantic (as am I).
The minister who married my DH and me has done many same sex weddings here in my community, that was important to me.

Haha - I have gone back and forth so many times on posting pics, but no, as of yet I haven''t. We''re pretty private, and I feel extra protective over our special day, so, I don''t know... But then I''ve loved seeing other people''s (yours included!), so maybe one day.

We''re from the midwest (so no, our marriage is not formally recognized here), but it was such a nice feeling to know we were in a place where we were treated equally for the ceremony. We got married in the South End, which was a super welcoming place :) All the cars were honking and passerbys were saying nice stuff as we walked outside for our pictures. A really great feeling (I think you mentioned similar experiences in your wedding thread -- actually, when we were traveling with our dresses, we also got someone asking if we were having a double wedding!).

That Fidelity video is actually how I found this thread. I was thinking about posting it on PS but didn''t know if there was an appropriate place, so I did a search to see if it had already been posted, and found this one that I didn''t know existed. I usually stick to the ring and BWW forums, so I didn''t realize there was a history of problems. Sorry you''ve had to deal with that. Like the video, I think your willingness to share your pictures and such can only do good in the end...

Re: California, I know what you mean. I have to believe it''s just a temporary set-back...I''ll be watching all the court stuff closely and hoping it''s all resolved favorably by the time you move out there this summer!

I am so flattered, thank you! I''m glad your student was able to get something out of our photos. I know how important it is to feel like there''s stuff out there in the world that reflects my reality... mostly I feel like it doesn''t, and all those tiny little ways it manifests itself--commercials, finding store-bought cards for each other, wedding planning sites, etc.--can add up to become a rather Big Deal at times. I am such a romantic, and luckily DW is as well. We are really great for each other. Something so wonderful cannot be wrong, and in my heart I know that is true. It''s wonderful that your minister was involved in same sex weddings. I think that''s lovely. Living in MA I remember campaigning at 11 years old to legalize same sex marriage, and vividly recall the day the MA Supreme Judicial Court handed down the ruling, as well as the day the weddings began. It was beautiful, and in my own community in possibly the most liberal area of MA, many ministers were marrying same sex couples. I have been completely naturalized to that concept to the point where I almost roll my eyes when people start in with the universal generalizations of what God thinks of me. I know many people who believe differently, and I cannot STAND when people pass off their own opinions or beliefs as applicable to all others. Oops, rant over! I love your wedding set, by the way. It''s so elegant and classy!
