Oh my goodness, thank you, Kittybean! I am flattered. I have no idea what to say!
Another of my obsessions is with law. I used to want to go to law school, but I never intended on practicing law, so I''ve put off that endeavor in favor of getting a PhD, which I hope to start in the fall of 2010. That I''ve decided not to go to law school doesn''t stop me from reading all the US Supreme Court cases when they hand down decisions or finding the oral argument transcripts to peruse. I try to limit my intake by only focusing on the SCOTUS, MA SJC, and CA Supreme Court in the interest of time, but I can''t help it- it''s fun!
I will post some background on my life soon. I hope this isn''t too boring!
Oh one of these days I want to talk to you about Heller...I need to find the argument tho....I only had the prosecution''s argument tho...Date: 2/4/2009 2:49:54 PM

I will start with very basics:
I am 21 and 1/2 years old [] and a student at an all-women''s college. I am graduating this May with a B.A. in Political Science and Gender Studies. Both disciplines are the true loves of my life
[Other than DW, of course!]. I am a supernerd at heart, and usually know a lot about what''s going on in the world due to obsessive tendencies such as reading the news 50 times a day from at least 5 different news sources. I like to think that the more versions of a story I read, the closer I get to knowing the facts of the story, given the obvious and sometimes less obvious bias of every source.![]()

See, I love the theory part, and I''m really interested in public policy, but I really am not looking for a legal career. I can imagine after law school you wouldn''t want to be reading decisions all day long!Date: 2/4/2009 3:02:19 PM

I love your appellate-decision-reading hobby. Hard to imagine anyone who doesn''t have to read them in law school would ever want to do so! (Just kidding, of course.) I read SCOTUS decisions and Colo. Sup. Ct. decisions when I can, but only in criminal law and procedure. I was inundated with appellate decisions in law school, so I can only stomach so many anymore. Although law school is great if you want to be a lawyer, I think you''re making the right decision about it. In my opinion, it''s not as much a ''general education'' as some people are wont to say. It can get pretty theoretical, and there is always lots of policy discussion, but it''s all ultimately geared toward a legal career.
What are you planning to study for your Ph.D.?
D.C. v. Heller, or are you thinking of something else? 2nd Amendment isn''t my thing but if you want to discuss it that will be a PERFECT excuse for me to do some reading!!Date: 2/4/2009 3:09:08 PM

I'm not to brilliant for anything, hey! I sort of love TV, I will admit. I adore Law and Order, especially SVU, and I watch it whenever I can. DW hates L&O, though, so I have to be on the stealth with it. I also love The Closer, on TNT, and sometimes I like House even though Dr. House scares the shit out of me.Date: 2/4/2009 3:18:12 PM

Well. We had known each other for awhile because we both started out majoring in International Relations... and both subsequently switched majors. We had a close mutual friend who introduced us more intimately a few times and we hung out in groups of friends a few times too. A few years ago a lot of people at our school were participating in the Day of Silence [students who participate stay silent for the day in remembrance of those who were victims of anti-LGBTQ violence as well as drawing attention to the silence and invisibility the queer community faces every day], and we''d planned to participate as well. However, that same morning the US Supreme Court handed down their decision in Gonzalez v. Carhart and we were both so freaking pissed that we couldn''t stay silent and needed to talk about it. Everyone around us didn''t want to talk and break the silence, so we talked to each other! And talked... and talked... and set up a date to watch a movie in one of the nice rooms in the library one night. When we got there we completely forgot to watch the movie and talked for seven hours about all sorts of stuff, and eventually were kicked out of the library when it closed. We went back to my room and the rest was history.
We moved in together informally pretty much the next day and it was instant clickage.
She is great. She studies Critical Social Thought undergrad and just got accepted to an awesome Feminist Studies PhD program. We''re moving to California!![]()

My guilty pleasures are Wife Swap [or Trading Spouses, whichever is on], America''s Next Top Model, and that channel where they remodel houses and show people buying houses, etc. I feel like a loser when I admit that I watch these, but I don''t care anymore. I need time to let my brain relax!
ETA: I always feel so low-brow when I admit this for some reason, but I actually like TV shows better than movies! I might have a really short attention span or something, but it''s true. As an addendum to my ''how I met DW'' story above, we were supposed to watch The L Word that first night... since I don''t like watching movies.![]()
Aww, thanks! I think we're pretty adorable, but obviously I'm biased. I will admit, yes, kissing her was on my mind as I stared deep into her eyes and absorbed her enthusiastic and intelligent discussion of Hugo Chavez. *sigh*Date: 2/4/2009 3:34:49 PM

Hi Choro! If all goes as planned we should be landing in Santa Barbara by the end of this summer. I am so nervous! I have no job options as of yet since technically we are waiting to hear back from the fellowship committee and finaid at the school and "deciding" which school she wants to attend [but UCSB is her first choice-YAY!].Date: 2/4/2009 3:35:04 PM

So nice to hear more about you Wishful. I too love Wife Swap. It's my guilty pleasure, LOL!!!
This is so hard! I have way too many favorite books. I think my favorite book of ALL time would have to be A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L''Engle. That book and the two others in the direct trilogy, A Wind in the Door and A Swiftly Tilting Planet are just fantastic. What fascinated me the most about them was that L''Engle created this whole amazing world for her characters. I just love stuff like that. On a more adult note, I am a fan of most things academic. My favorite grown up book is probably The Human Condition, by Hannah Arendt. It blew my mind. I also really adore Catherine MacKinnon, although saying that in mixed company usually gets me in trouble! I think she''s brilliant, though, especially her Toward a Feminist Theory of the State.Date: 2/4/2009 3:59:00 PM
