Will you resume pre-COVID life after getting vaccinated?

I'd like to see more people getting vaccinated before I do, as I am extremely risk adverse when it comes to health. I have not left the house since March except for doctor appointments and the very most essential of needs. We use 100% grocery delivery and will continue to isolate for the foreseeable future. Even after getting the vaccine, I intend to continue wearing KN95 masks and socially distance because the vaccine is only 95% effective and you can potentially spread the virus even if it doesn't make you sick. The long term risks are too unknown to comfortably return to pre-COVID life. I will likely continue with all precautions until there is herd immunity and the virus nearly eradicated. It's not easy, I hate it, it takes mental resilience and discipline, but it's the best choice for the health of my family and the community.

I will continue using safe Covid 19 measures until we know for sure it’s safe. So I’ll continue wearing masks and social distancing until it’s clearly safe to stop.

We’ve already decided that we’ll continue to wear masks, socially distance and do whatever we need to in order to feel safe, even after we’ve been vaccinated. Until the vast majority have had the vaccine, we’ll still take as many precautions as we feel necessary.

I will continue masking both from prudence and to model the thing I think is the right thing to do. I worry that antimaskers will misinterpret my not wearing a mask as not believing in them. Also since businesses can’t tell who was and wasn’t fully vaccinated we will likely all have to continue indoor masking for awhile. I am not optimistic we will get to herd immunity in 2021 but we will see. It might end up being a region by region thing.

I will likely ease up a little on the social distancing and see some close family and friends who have also been vaccinated (unsurprisingly many of my friends are also healthcare and also getting vaccinated early) who I haven’t seen in a long time. Nothing super high risk like a karaoke party but maybe some masked chats in a living room.

Nope. Because it's going to be a looonnnng time until we get enough of the general population to agree to take the vaccine. If we ever do. So my husband and I will continue being hermits other than him having to go to the office because they demand public office hours and groceries until our doctors tell us we can stop living like this. My daughter and I depend on him to survive. We can't play with his life. I am replaceable. He and our daughter are not.

I already got the vaccine but will nit change anything i do now
It will be a while before over 70% of the population is vaccinated to achieve herd immunity
My husband and I are lucky to be in the group that have recieved the vaccine but my children and 69 yr old mum will not be for several months.
The vaccine is not 100% protective from infection, it just ensures you will likely not have severe disease.
Until most are vaccinated- life will continue for me how its been the last 9 months

I'm apparently near the end of the line to get vaccinated so it just depends on what the situation and medical recommendations are at that time.

Yes, but my country is in a slightly different (by the grace of God) positiin going into vaccination
The plan seems to be to vaccinate boarder workers first, then the rest of us.
We have the advatange of a smaller population and also no current community transmission but right now what's happening in Sydney shows us we walk on a tight rope with covid 19

Our main problem is to stop it coming into the country
If we make vacination a prerequisite to entry then we can go back to life as nornal but right now all our cases are in the quareteen hotels fresh off flights from all over the world but particularly UK, USA and the middle east

Yes, as before i will continue to wash my hands but i will never ever think snide things about Asian students wearing face masks like i may have done on occasion previously - in fact i may join them

I am slated to get the vaccine very soon. It is still not known whether the "protection" conferred by the vaccine -- which looks remarkable -- means freedom from COVID-19 symptoms or freedom from infection. Big difference in terms of potential transmissibility. It's possible that one could asymptomatically spread disease despite being protected oneself.

I don't envision being any less careful after the vaccination, at least until that point gets clarified. Plus, my workplace and everywhere I go mandates masks. And my household contacts will get the vaccine after me.

Aussie neighbour here and I think we are in between. Things are somewhat normal ish but we have to wear masks indoors in shops etc. There was an outbreak in Sydney which is stressing all of us out. And when they do contact tracing - geez those people frequent a lot of places.

So I think I will be in between. Limit my social outings. Social distance. Masks wherever possible and hand sanitiser =)2

I think it depends when I get it, where things stand at the time and what we learn between now and then. There is still a lot of unknowns about the vaccine as to whether it reduces the effects themselves of Covid and/or the ability to be a carrier.

I answered "in between" but in my cases this means doing things some others have been already with precautions. As someone who has pretty much quarantined since March so that I can safely visit my 85 year old mother, I will obviously continue to follow whatever guidelines/recommendations are in place but my hope is that I will be comfortable going back to stores, getting together with friends, and ideally travel to see family.

The Sydney thing is scary how quickly its spiraling
Our contract tracing is finally going blue tooth
i have a lot of trouble scanning the code most places but i only go out mixing with people to shop so im hoping my bank statement knows the time if push comes to shove

Well, even with a vaccine there will still be cases. I think mask wearing for many has been normalized (with good reason) and I'll continue to wear one until there's some sort of concurrence of "herd immunity" after that, I'll probably continue to wear one if I'm ill or whatever.

I just don't believe we'll have any sort of "normal" until about a year if whats going on in the UK with the new variant is true.

Sydney resident here and I had a good chuckle at your post.

Yes we roam around a lot! We buy properties near everything so we can roam around all the suburbs!!!

I know people who drive to the other end of the city to get charcoal chicken and garlic sauce!

Humorous article on the recent outbreak

Lol I just look at the list of places that are on high alert and think geez haha I guess it's because I only go to work, gym, maybe grocery shopping, and eat out maybe once a week at most. So it kinda amazes me lol

Not entirely, no. I intend to wear masks on planes and any public transportation. My circle of family and friends is relatively small so I will keep my "bubble" as well.

I'm basically a loner anyway so covid precautions weren't horribly different from my normal routine. I rather enjoyed the peace and quiet but I do miss shopping and wandering around looking at pretty things without risking death.

Nothing had change for me since March except that I'd wear a mask in public and carry a bottle of hand sanitizer in my pocket.

Hard to say, but I'd guess my safety habits will continue, unaltered, till Covid deaths drop to match those of the "regular" flu.
If that never happens I'll probably continue with masks, social distancing, and the hand washing forever.

Great question BTW, and it'll be interesting to see how all this turns out.

The only thing certain about how people will behave in the future is ... people will vary, which will result in great howling and gnashing of teeth.

I've read somewhere that vaccines will only make you immune to severe symptoms of the virus but you will still get infected. Either it is true or not, I think I'll be sticking with my now usual routine of wearing a mask and bringing isopropyl alcohol with me whenever I go out in public places.

Kenny, Just get yourself and your SO vaccinated then you have nothing to worry about. But wait :hand: no vaccination for white peoples. These days everything is about the color of your skins.

Nothing to worry about would require I got a vaccine that is 100% effective.
But the two vaccines available in USA are only 90% and 95% effective.

Since my age a medical conditions mean possible death from C19, 5% and 10% ARE something to worry about.
The vaccine may not work on me, on on you, or on your grandchildren.

But rather than worry, I'll just continue doing what the CDC recommends, mask, social distancing, and hand washing.

No such thing as 100% effective, so you and your SO will not get vaccinated?

Okie Dokie, then. :))

There's no such thing as 100% certainty @kenny, especially when it comes to medicine. A lot of unintended consequences can happen. My dad contacted polio from the polio vaccine itself, for instance. That's not something that's supposed to happen... But it happened. Other unexpected things happen too. These vaccines have been approved for emergency authorized use, not unconditional general use. We don't know long term effects.

I will get the vaccine. Because I don't have time to wait to start a family, because I want to have a baby before my biological clock has gotten to a certain point. After the vaccine, I will resume life as before... At least mentally. There's no way to control risk to zero, as so much of that risk is not up to me, but to others. Of course I will still follow protocol and wear masks, wash hands after vaccination, but I'm going to have my birth control taken out and try to plan out the rest of my life without wasting my time on fear.

I definitely plan to still wear a mask and using sanitiser etc even after vaccination is made available, but the second my at-risk loved ones are vaccinated I will start going out to meet friends, return to the office to work instead of being 100% WFH, and TRAVEL. I am a pretty social person and it has been driving me insane that I can’t even take “reasonable precautions” and “form a bubble” because I come into close contact with at-risk people every day.

I’m sorry @voce. You’re right. Some people can get polio from the oral polio vaccine.

However the Covid 19 vaccine is an mRNA vaccine and you cannot contract Covid from the vaccine.

@missy sorry, I'm not trying to suggest you can contract the virus from an mRNA vaccine. And my dad is near retirement age. He was not administered the oral vaccine for polio. He did not grow up in the US and got the Russian version of the vaccine that used weakened live polio virus (can't remember whether that's be the Sabin or Salk version), but I'd think it was the first version of polio vaccine available by injection.

Medicine has advanced a long way since then, and I wouldn't hesitate to take an mRNA vaccine, I just wanted to say there's no such thing as a 100% guaranteed solution to disease.
