Will this stone work with my wife’s current setting?

I’m looking to potentially change the center stone in my wife’s current ring, but I’m not sure if it will “work” with it. Right now, she has an almost perfectly square cushion cut Alexandrite as her center stone. The new stone I’m looking at is also cushion cut, but it’s more rectangular. In your opinion, would the new stone work in my wife’s current ring?

what are the dimensions of the currently-set stone, length x width x depth (in mm)?

Old is 5.6mm x 5.4mm and new is 6mm x 4.65mm.

Based on my experience and the dimensions you provided, it'll "fit" but you'll definitely need new prong work done. Depending on the depth, you may even need a cage. Don't think so though looking at the stone, looks flat (in a good way!)

I could see removing the prongs and old stone entirely and setting the new stone with longer and deeper prongs. Picture more of a fishhook-style claw prong instead of a simple arc.

IMHO it would work fine. The labor and goldsmithing shouldn't be that bad either!

P.S. - Good gem choice. Those are both stunning, particularly seeing the potential new stone.

My wife is having a milestone birthday soon, and she loves all things jewelry, so I figured I’d get her an upgrade. Her current stone is Tanzanian, and this stone is Brazlillian. It’s also eye clean, whereas her current stone is slightly included. And last but not least, it’s slightly bigger, so by getting her a bigger stone, it’s only fair that she lets me buy a new Corvette

I have seen it in person in mixed lightning, and while it’s a tad on the dark side, it’s way less murky that my wife’s current stone.
