Back in the 80s I loved going to one of the huge art-deco 1920s theaters in West Los Angeles.
The sound systems were state of the art, and even for this introvert the attentive enthusiastic crowd contributed much to the experience.

There were no stupidphones.
I stopped going when those phones showed up.

Drive ins do not have the awesome trillion-dollar sound systems.
Plus, even though it's outside and others are in their cars, a thousand people in a small area may have their windows open on a warm Los Angeles summer evening.
It seems reasonable to me that the level of risks will be above zero.
No thanks.

I'm positive I'll never set foot in a theater again.

I agree with everything you wrote. Though for the last sentence. While I am pretty sure I won't ever go to a movie theater again I can never say never.

Like others have said, I loved going to the movies as a kid. The experience was huge and so special but now it just feels like I'm paying a premium to have bad popcorn with rude people.

I'm so glad that televisions have dropped in price so much. One can have a lovely, cozy experience at home without any of the stress.

You are so fortunate @msop04 the infection rate is rising again where we are and now the NYC Mayor is talking about closing schools in 9 districts and closing the restaurants there as well. I fully support closing businesses and schools where the infection rate is rising to prevent a huge second wave. I hope it remains well and quiet by you!

The reality is that pretty much everyone will contract this virus, whether they know it or not. We test literally thousands every week, and 85% of our confirmed positives have been completely asymptomatic (they typically have to test per their employers). Positives that experience mild symptoms (similar to that of a cold) are at about 13%, and the other 2% have been sent to the hospital (usually due to O2 saturation levels).

Our clinics are required to report all positive cases to the state, and labs are required to do the same. Although we have mostly rapid tests now, we were only using "send out" tests throughout the summer. One positive case was sent in as 2 positives (once by the clinic and again by the lab). If we are doing that, you can be certain every other testing site is required to do the same. We have been told there is no way to link the cases or fix it. That is a problem.

Too much money in the movie industry to think it is gone forever. It has been entertainment for generations and I feel certain it will continue to be once the pandemic is over.

Maybe it will mean the drive in cinemas will make a comeback :)

i dont know, it might rebound. We have watched a few movies in that last couple of weeks. Now we're just watching chinese and japanese blockbusters though as the western ones are not showing - we watched jiangzi ya yesterday. I think it will recover.

I don't go to the pictures very often but i still love it
