Will sapphire have to be destroyed to replace bezel?

I picked up my eternity band from the jeweler last night. I had them set a bezeled sapphire in the sizing bar. It personalizes my ring and I love it. But, when I looked at it closely I could see there was a notch in the bezel. After looking through my loop, I could see where the bezel was shaved off a smidge and the girdle is exposed. I have a call into the jeweler. I'm wondering..will he have to break the sapphire in order to replace the bezel? I sourced the sapphire and it took quite a while to find one just the right color to match my fiance's eyes. I bought it from a dealer in Montana. He had to go through quite a few to find the right size and color and it was the only one. I'm posting a pic.

If the sapphire would have to be destroyed, would you just keep it as is? Also, the sapphire looks nothing like the picture. It is the most perfect light med blue with lots of sparkle.

A jeweler with a laser welder may be able to fix it without even taking the stone out of the bezel. Ask.
