I ordered diamond (1) from JA and my fiance is quite happy with the color and light performance and it's eye clean. In terms of color, we cannot see any hint of yellow it looks very colorless. Diamond 1 is $2,610 after the JAA discount.

Here is diamond (2) which I just ordered. It's slightly bigger but down in color, has medium florescence, and is deeper. I'm not sure if the J will be too yellow but my fiance wants the physically largest diamond that has great brilliance and fire within my budget (3k for diamond). Diamond 2 is $2,850 (was 3k before JAA discount)

Diamond (2) ideal scope - not yet available

Which diamond would you keep and which would you send back?

Which do you think is better cut in terms of proportions and angels?

Thank you very much!

If it were me, I would prefer the first diamond. However, I am assuming your fiance will be wearing it, so she might prefer the larger one. I would say let her examine them both and see which one she prefers and send the other one back.

Any reason why you like #1 better?

If you do the chat function or call JA and ask for the James Allen Preferred pricing they give you a discount of about $150 off. It cannot be combined with any other offers but it seems to be the most off.

the second does hit the 6.2mm mark and appears to be well cut. Be very careful of the inclusions under the table, particularly at an angle. Really you have done everything you can to compare and I'm sure after time well spent with both you will pick the right one for you! It may be tricky to notice a difference of 0.2mm individually but side by side you will most likely be able to tell.

Make sure the ISI1 0.8 carat is clean if you have been handling it when comparing to the J. I'd say they are both pretty well priced.

I ran the HCA tool (https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca) and the AGA Cut Class tool (https://www.pricescope.com/tools/AGA_NAJA_Cut_Class_Grader) on both stones, and they are pretty darn close in terms of cut quality...

0.81 Carat I-SI1
HCA = 0.8 excellent (within AGSO box)
AGA = 1A total score (all 1As except Pavilion Depth = 1B)

0.91 Carat J-SI1
HCA = 1.3 excellent (within AGSO box)
AGA = 1A total score (all 1As)

The medium blue fluor of the J diamond and it being a bit larger in diameter are pluses, but it may not be eye-clean and/or near-colorless enough for either/both of you.

If you will have both diamonds in hand at the same time, I'd examine them both in different lighting conditions to compare them in terms of color and clarity, and pick whichever one best pleases both of you.

The 0.91 carat is a better deal. :)
