Will a halo overwhelm my stone?

Ok first a little background on my thoughts. I love my diamond. I really do. It's beautiful and sparkly and perfectly cut! It's also a nice size.
However for about a year now I've been going back and forth on the age old question: to halo or not to halo?
I don't have an issue with the size of my diamond per se. I absolutely ADORE the sleek simplicity of my solitaire.
... Yet I find myself craving a bit more for my diamond...
For a while I even thought I wanted to trade my diamond for an OEC (I still want one but in addition to not instead of!) I've tried staying away from PS to see if maybe it was just seeing all the beautiful rings here that was making me unsatisfied.
I don't want a halo to make my stone look bigger, but rather to decorate it.
I've gone to different jewelers and tried on plenty of settings and halos.
I've found out that I don't want my halo to blend in with my diamond. I want it to frame it and accent it while still letting the center be the star.
The problem is that many jewelers don't have sample halos for a 1.5+ ct stone and so I don't have a real idea of how it would look on my hand.
What if it looks too bulky? Or gaudy?
Have any of you haloed and regretted it?
I still plan to keep my solitaire setting just in case and because I really do love it. My main concern is that my diamond will just blend in and not stand out as the main feature.
This is the halo I want:

You've got a 1.61 round right? I think it would be okay. I wouldn't say overwelm. But it will compete. That's a lot of setting. But a 1.6 can hold it's own.

Yep just about 1.6.
It's 7.6mm and the halo is about 1.5mm I think.
I'm counting on bev k to be quality and make it look elegant not "too much"
I've seen bev k samples but only smaller than I'm considering or silver replicas.

I personally like to keep my e-ring pretty simple. Why not go for a RHR that is a halo?

This is such a personal choice! I prefer halos where there is contrast - so colored gems, yellow diamonds, but not all white diamonds. Also - I love to "dress up" my solitaire, but my way is to own lots and lots of wedding bands - I'm not saying I invented Celebration Rings, but let's just say I was a very early adopter!! The beauty is the dressing up or down is easily reversed. I can go from my 'young newlywed' look to my 'top selling realtor' look in the blink of an eye. But, YOU have to decide what you're craving.

I feel you! I have a 1.5 center stone and actually had a halo for about a year. The entire year, I got lots and lots of compliments from my very fashionable friends--they really noticed it. To be honest with you, I myself liked it too and now I miss it. I ended up trading it in for a 3 stone, and now the only compliments I get are from jewelers or sales people. I miss my halo, but I don't know if I will go down that road again. I will have to agree with the previous poster that now I dress up my 3 stone with different bands. I am excited for you if you do because I know you will enjoy it.

It is very hard for us to determine what you would find acceptable. I do have a suggestion. Pearlman's Jewelry sells Beverly K, and when I was shopping for a halo reset, they sent me a silver and cz sample ring to try on my hand and see what it would look like. They didn't have all size stones, but close enough to help me decide. What about contacting them and see if they could do that for you. Then you could see with your own eyes whether or not it is the look you want. Best of luck!

I thought about this too, but I don't often wear a right hand ring and the times that I do it's either my grandmother/moms engagement ring or my original engagement ring.

I love dressing up my solitaire too! I have three bands that I can wear with it. ;)

I would love love love a three stone, but again I think I'd want one in addition to not instead of. (small list of wants huh)
I know that a halo would not be my forever setting in any case. This may not even be my forever stone.
I just happen to like a lot of different things! The understated elegance of a solitaire and the bling of a halo both appeal to me. So I figure, I've given the solitaire about a year, maybe I'll try something different now.
Plus it's like a mini upgrade for my anniversary in November. :)

Thank you for this suggestion! I actually went to a local jeweler in San Fran that carries Bev k and they also had a box of silver samples. Alas they didn't have any round stones in round halos close to the size I am looking at, but there were other rings that could give me an idea of how big it would look on my hand. I have larger hands so I do have that going for me in that it's not going to overwhelm my finger.
I had not seen Bev k settings in person and I was pleased with the quality.

You may have said this, but what is the underlying desire motivating the change? More bling? More hand presence? Somthing new and different?

I don't think it will overwhelm your stone at all. I think that would only happen if you had a very small stone, which you don't. I say go for it!!

I think it's mostly me wanting something very different but still in line with styles I love.

Thanks Laila! Im pretty much decided to do it, I was mostly worried that the halo would be too thick for the porportions I like. I'll see if I can find some examples.

I don't know if you would consider different halos, but this is my favorite of the BK halos, and I think it would look really nice with a 1.6.

That is beautiful.

However the first setting I linked to has two major things going for it at the moment.
1) it has a galler/profile exactly like my solitaire (but with pave and milgrain) and that is my favorite aspect of my current ring.
2) I found the setting pre-loved online ;)

Btw thank you to everyone for all the opinions and suggestions!
When I ask my husband what he thinks he just says 'that's nice'

Ahh. That is an overriding factor. I agree. Can't wait to see it in it's new home!

So... it may seem that I have too much time on my hands, but really it only took like five minutes!

Foil Halo is about 2-2.5mm (not perfect of course)

what do you guys think?

Personally I love it!!! I'm glad I did this little experiment because it really reinforced my feelings that I should go for it and though my foil halo is a bit bulky, the size totally doesn't detract from the stone.

Wow, that foil halo looks pretty good! :D Great idea - a good way to get a general idea of the size and look - when I saw the first pic without reading, I thought "how'd she get a halo so quick" lol

I really like the setting - I think it's going to be a beautiful look!

Wouldn't it be nice if there were clip on halos?
Then I could have a solitaire and pop on the halo whenever I needed a bling pick me up. :appl:

Do what makes YOUR heart sing!!!!!! ME, however???? I prefer it as a solitaire. There - I said it!

Thanks for your input! I love the solitaire too!
I'm going to try the halo for a while until I get tired of it. Or until I upgrade! :D

I've looked and looked in stores for something like that to try on! Can't seem to find it. The enhancers that I do find don't usually fit my stone or setting because it's cathedral style :(

So... I've gone ahead and pulled the trigger on the setting and will hopefully have some pics for you all next weekend!
I'm excited!

Where can we buy this halo enhancer? This is exactly what my daughter has been looking for! thanks Helen
