Hi, all!

First I planned to wear my wedding band & ER together. But at the moment I prefer the idea to wear my ER on the right hand after the wedding - and hence to wear my (plain) wedding band on the left hand as a stand alone band. How wide do you think I should go in a heavy comfort fit plain wedding band. I habe medium length fingers (I guess) and the band should be very noticeable, so right now I''m thinking about a width of 8 to 10 mm and a thickness of 2 to 2.5 mm.

On the other hand, I want the wedding band my fiancee puts on my finger on our wedding day to stay on there for the rest of my life. Is such a width suitable for everyday use or unpractical and troublesome? Who is wearing such a wide plain wedding band and can tell me about his/her experiences? Do you have any pics how a wide band looks like on your finger respectively on your hand? This would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance,

Magda

My mother had a 10 or 12mm wedding band and she didn''t wear it every day because it was too wide and uncomfortable for every day activities.

My husband and I got married with extra heavy weight 6mm comfort fit bands and I don''t wear that one everyday- mostly because that''s the ring we exchanged our vows with and I don''t want anything to happen to it, and second- it''s too heavy and not easy to stack with other rings. The rings I wear every day are 3mm comfort fit milgrained bands. (I have one in white and one in yellow). I also have 4mm comfort fit milgrained bands in platinum and 18K yellow gold, but I don''t wear those too much either.

For me, the goldilocks size is 3mm. My new diamond band and new palladium band will both be 3mm.

These are our official wedding bands. 6mm, extra heavy comfort fit. I don''t have any hand shots.

I wear a size 6 and love a nice wide wb! I don''t own one right now, but it is on my list.

I recently when to a store and tried on a number of different widths and the winner by far for me was 8mm in a comfort fit band that was about 2mm thick.

I''m attaching a stock photo of the wedding band style that we got last year. Mine is 6mm and DH''s is 8mm. I can only really wear my .50 cwt eternity with it comfortably, and had to order the 6mm a full 1.5 sizes larger than normal for my ring finger. I like that we have matching bands for the first time in almost 27 years. I really couldn''t pull off or be comfortable in a wider band than this. It is not comfort fit, but it is very comfortable to wear, more of a flat pipe shape to it.

I think for EVERY DAY use, 8-10 mm is way too wide for comfort....so if you want the band to never come off, you are probably going to have to go smaller. I have a 3mm and a 4 mm (i''m not terribly sentimentally attached though) and I personally LOVE the 4mm band. The 3mm band looks rinky dinky on me, but i also have a size 7 ring finger. I think you could do a 5mm, but for comfort purposes, I personally wouldn''t go more than that.

Have you gone to try them on? my jeweler would order in any size i want and let me try - maybe yours would do the same. You''ll know the right size when you try it on!

for me personally I would never choose such a wide wedding band - I wear stacking bands, between 1 and 2 mm wide - sometimes I just wear one 1mm band but I prefer a delicate look. I would try one on - or even buy a cheap silver one of the width you''re considering and wear it around to see what you think

My aunt wears a 10 mm plain gold band and that''s all she wore until about 10 years ago when my uncle gave her a diamond ring. It is lovely and I wish I had the length of fingers to wear such a thing.

Thank you very much for your statements. There are pros and cons either way

. It ain''t easy to finalize the right decision.

myself, I really want a delicate contrasting band, floral or swirly in some way, i like the tiffany swing obviously but there is so much choice out there how are we brides to decide?

16mm wide 14k white gold wedding band, 2.02 ct. RB VS2-G e-ring, size 8.

I have a 4mm comfort fit band that I use as my "travel" ring... it is perfectly comfortable and still substantial looking (I also have a 2mm band that I can stack next to it and the combined 6mm is also not uncomfortable). I would think that the perfect balance of comfort and substantial band for an average female would be between 4mm and 6mm depending on her hand (which is why I would also say you should go and try on different widths).

Sorry for the crappy webcam photo - everything else is packed up

This 3mm band was my grandfathers - I just had it polished and re-rhodium plated

It goes perfectly with my ering, but I feel it''s too small to wear alone.
