PS has a "Jewel of the Week" feature.
This week it features Joelly's beautiful Octavia 3-stone ring.

The article states, "The Octavia cut was created by Yoram Finkelstein, of Gem Concepts. ... "

But I thought Karl K designed the Octavia and Yoram cut it.
Karl is not even mentioned anywhere in the article. :(sad

I hope this was a simple oversight, and PS can edit the write up to give Karl the credit he deserves.
Then again, if my understanding of the origin of the Octavia is incorrect, I welcome clarification.

Great catch and question Kenny.

I'm reporting my post to make sure moderators and @psadmin see it!

That is a shame.

My Apology as Kayti was not aware of the origin. It was a simple oversight.

I have corrected it.

Thanks Andrey. :)

That is 100% my fault! I am very sorry for the oversight, no slight was intended!

I was unaware and the initial information that I found when researching was incomplete!

I truly appreciate your bringing it up though, the opportunity to learn more about this astonishingly lovely cut is really great!

There is always more to learn and I appreciate the PS way of helping each other. This really is the best community!

Thank you, Andrey for changing it for me!

Thanks Kayti. :)

Totally understandable, and you're doing a great job.
PS is an amazing community with a long history.

Kayti, I feel I should offer a bit of background behind this thread.
I'm an over the top diamond-cut geek.
I LOVE top light performance, which previously was only available in a round shape, yet the Asscher shape was my favorite.

When Karl created the Octavia I jumped on the bandwagon right away.
I think I bought the first one sold and went bananas photographing it.
I voluntarily evangelized all things Octavia to anyone who would listen.
Later I bought a second Octavia.

Having previously worn two super-ideal rounds, Solasfera and Whiteflash ACA, I was familiar with the light performance when a diamond is cut optimally.
I wore and loved a fantastic generic Asscher for years, but the new Octavia was a revolution.
Now I could get top-drawer light performance from a square-cut emerald shape. :kiss2:

Karl is a genius, and Yorum is a brilliant diamond cutter whom I believe has cut every Octavia; I hear the Octavia is extremely difficult to cut.

Thanks again, Kayti. :wavey:

thanks Kenny I hadn't seen that.
It was an honest error no harm, no foul.

Yes Yoram has cut every one, and they are hard to cut, and hard to find rough to cut one from which limits production.

That is really awesome! My favorite part about diamonds is light play, I love watching the way an impeccably cut diamond can make the light dance.

When I saw the Octavia I knew she was a dancer, and so I fell a bit in love!

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

My apologies to Karl, you are a true visionary.

I have seen one Octavia in person and it is the only white diamond that made me literally say "WOW" out loud. It knocked my socks off. (oh... wait... I also like the Cullinans in the crown jewels... I said "wow" at those too.)

I apologize if this isn't the right forum for this, but is there any chance of MMD octavias? I was wondering if that would alleviate some of the problem of obtaining the right rough.

Never say never but:
Most of the CVD mmd rough is on the shallow side and not suited for the cut.
It makes sense that when its deep enough for an RB stop growing it.
HPHT rough there might be some there that would work.

The biggest reason is that I'm not comfortable with the pricing situation on mmd. There is just to much unknown right now.
Don't get me wrong I fully support mmd and think it will eventually own the market long term but right now it it is up in the air.

That all makes sense! I don't know how possible it is to like, have the rough custom-grown, or whatever, if a consumer wanted a manmade octavia. And of course the pricing situation as it is - I can understand how you might have ethical concerns selling something knowing there's a good chance it will drop in value and business concerns buying things that you may not be able to make a full return on.

I saw that and wondered the same thing. So glad you brought it up, Kenny!
