Why strippers are performing at funerals

oh my

So the larger the crowd, the more respect being shown to the deceased?
Children watching?

As you say @kenny , people vary.
Don't expect strippers at my (inexpensive) funeral. :nono:

I think if it is a tradition (maybe it started like something different?), why not?

I can’t say “children watching?” because I honestly have no clue if they take kids to funerals in rural China. I know China is an atheist country so I don’t expect prayers there - so perhaps it is a form of “celebrate life”?

I once knew a kid here in the US whose grandpa (very affluent) was a big-time biker, so according to his wish, they buried him sitting on his Harley-Davidson, in all biker’s gear. The guy was 72 or so.
(Some people are eccentric, but it reminded me of a Viking’s burial, with his horse, etc...)

It would be very interesting if someone (perhaps from China, or with knowledge of history) could tell us where their funeral custom comes from.

Have you seen articles, where in China some families sell the dead bodies of young pretty women to men in order to marry them called "ghost weddings" strippers are probably one step up from marrying dead people;

o_O Strippers, we need strippers. Sheesh! The ghost bride/murder/grave robbing thing is too much.

I have never attended a chinese funeral with strippers ...:bigsmile:

Omg :shock: I've never been happier about being older and homely - ain't nobody gonna try to kill me and marry my bones!:dance:

It was a joke DF, although having said that I can see how strippers at a funeral might add a bit of cheer to some of the men there....
Hey why not??? if the deceased like going to strippers club when he was alive...:lol:

From what I understand (I am not Chinese, but Ive been reading about this a bit) it seems its all tied to saving face and bolstering your reputation, though its not exactly what you would think. There is a large social value to having a lot of people around you, in societies eye it means you were succesful. Well what does that have to do with strippers?
Strippers get bodies in seats and make the deceased look more important than they may have been. Its an odd way to save face for sure.

though from what I have been told its not something that is wide spread or thought of very highly. Kind of like how some southern brides might insist on wearing a pink realtree camo dress and her groom be decked out head to toe in a realtree tux. Ive never seen it in person but I know its happened somewhere lol
