Why is this setting expensive?

I have just purchased the following setting but wondered why it is so expensive for a solitaire setting? Even in the UK these settings are no more than around $1100 (and many are much cheaper).

Does anyone else have this setting and knows the quality of it?

I do feel like I could have bought a bigger stone (I bought this one: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/F-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-997671.asp) as I had a $4800 budget (incl. VAT & import duties, so around $2600 for the stone) but $1450 was gone straight away for the setting.

Forgive my continued questioning (especially since I have as good as purchased the ering already!), but Ellen and others know what I am like already!

Firstly, the price of platinum has really gone up, so that''s one reason it is expensive. The second reason is that this particular setting is a branded setting. It is made by a Danhov which is known for quality settings.

I did notice that the 3D view on the JA site had Danhov inscribed on the setting but as there was no mention of it being Danhov in the specs I didn''t want to assume it was. If it is a Danhov then that makes me feel much better already.

I think the price for this setting is very reasonable. If you want to save quite a bit they have the same setting on their website in WG for a lot less.

The best thing to do is to email JA and ask if it''s really a Danhov setting. I hope it is. The setting is very fluid and appeals to me too.

JA have said that Danhov do fabricate this setting. I would have liked to have gone with the wg from a cost point of view but I had decided early on I would have to have platinum as my gf is worth the extra expenditure!

Ok, just asking again.

Does she want platinum? If so fine, if not, there''s nothing wrong with WG. It''s actually kind of a personal preference thing. (I prefer WG)
