Why do you participate in Hangout?

Easy- to watch people beat up on DF......HAHAHAHAH

So true...but he is so gracious about it! Deep down I think we all love him! On the flip side, it’s always entertaining to see how the newbies flare up over his comments as most of us just grin and bear it.

@nala ...I'm not sure if you were around back then....but years back DF, Karl and I were ....let's just say, not on the best of terms.....
Thankfully that's all behind us now.
If you think political threads get hot, try convincing me that a 57% table is better than a 60% table....HAHAHAHAH

@Wink You might have but I honestly can't say I remember...lol Its nice to hear though! Its a 4+ carat Sphene (titanite) one of the most beautiful and ridiculously soft stones I've ever owned outside of Fluorite. I had a jeweler set one and he said never ever again...lol

At current I've got 6 of them, but one in my Avi is truly my favorite.

Because Missy sos interesting questions, DF likes abuse and Kenny likes controversy (although he has been super nice for some reason since he came back). I avoid the political discussions because they make me mad.

HI:

I wonder. I do think about staying away--but times like these it is nice to have a "chat" about feelings, food, jewellery. I avoid the political threads b/c my family talks incessantly about politics and I have enough headaches as it is.

cheers--Sharon

Yeah, The liberals makes me mad but I still love them. They just don't let go till they win the argument...blah.gif nuts.gif

I came like everyone else, to ogle fine jewelry.

I stay for the eye candy, but mainly I stay because the conversations are interesting and the people I have met, and befriended, are smart and awesome! And kind ♥️
I have learned so much here. I am a lifelong learner so this place suits me. :)

I enjoy Hangout however I have considered staying away on several occasions. I find that there are those few who always must be right regardless of name calling, bashing and any other negative comments to prove their points. Politics are so hypersensitive. I try to stay away however when I see something that I just can't resist....... I need to exercise better discipline and stay away from the political threads. My life will be much easier. I hope to find myself slowly leaving Hangout and post and view the other threads which is the way I have done in the past. It's late.... good night and thank you Nala for this thread...Q

You are most welcome! Don’t let “those few” who resort to bashing or name calling get to you. Their posts are a reflection of their character; just ignore them and give them a waving emoji so that they can move on.

Well in the current situation it's a nice distraction from my kids who are seven years apart and bicker like mad. Seriously it would be either Hangout or drinking and this is cheaper.

Originally I came here because I was severely depressed and figured that online friends were safer at the time than IRL. Now I feel like I "know" so many people here that PS and all the folks here are part of my life.

I generally don't get involved in politics and with what might be considered a hot button topic I will comment but in a kind non-confrontational way, don't want to upset anyone or hurt any feelings...why? Life is hard enough and maybe that person is struggling with IRL troubles, why kick them when they're down?

You are so genuine. What a courageous post.

Thank you @nala -this is my intention. I had already asked God to give me the strength to ignore their latest. I've said what I have to say and yes, their current posts are a reflection of their character. I appreciate your support and the fact that you're sticking your neck out on my behalf. You have a very lovely and upstanding character.

I didn't "hang out" in Hangout much until Covid. Ironically, I never even opened any political threads here until Covid either. I know it gets heated and sometimes people get really passionate and crosses the line, but even so, I find it somewhat soothing to talk/listen to how everyone is coping and what each of us are struggling with. There's a sense of camaraderie of going through something like this together, no one is escaping this bizzaire reality.

Also ironically, since Covid I mostly spend my time here and haven't been to other parts of the forum. Kind of hard to enjoy bling I guess with everything on my mind.

Just in general, thank you everyone for being here, being who you are (even those I don't agree with).

@nala, thanks so much for your sweet compliment, I miss seeing your jewelry finds and new dresses :)

In my early years I had a few spectacular sphenes. I love their incredible dispersion, but alas, they are too soft.

One year at the Tucson Gem Show, I found a display of fluorite cleavages. They were a delightful octahedral shape, such as a perfect rough diamond might look like, only in colors. There were well over a hundred pieces at some ridiculous low price so I bought the entire lot and used to give them away to children who came into my store with their parents.

I kept a few that had great color zoning that approximated where a diamond might be sawn into two crystals for polishing two finished pieces. It was a great way to explain the concept of why the toppie is always so much smaller than the diamond polished from larger piece of crystal.
