Why do you love diamonds???

kidding aside (though they are purty)...why do i love diamonds. well they have intrigue, allure, mystery. they have a chameleon cloak on at all times, a diamond is a poster child for multiple personalities. i love the preciseness of the cut, the way that the alignment has to be just so to create the right amount of sparkle and life in the diamond, the way that an asscher is cut to draw your eye into the pool of beauty til you feel yourself just falling forward. analytics of the numbers, definitely, how a small change can create a whole different look or personality in the stone. they are fascinating, mesmerizing, every visual orgasmic adjective you could think of to describe them. crystal clear, light glancing off the facets, bursts of fire and flashes of color. it's all good. virtual smorgasboard of visual delight.

I enjoy reading this topic! Each post is a romantic essay.. I want this topic to rise to the surface of this forum once again and read more answers… In the meantime I’d like to share with you my feelings about my spring garden, my flowers and my beautiful Color of Nature Butterfly ring by Leon Popov from James Allen, my "engagement ring" with Nature.

Classic, clean, pure, simple, goes with everything. And with all the jewelry designs there are, the diamond is the star in a piece of wearable art. They are expensive, which makes them "feel" rare and special even if they''re not. You have to save and research so buying one is a big deal, and usually also something you purchase with your partner, which adds to the feeling of importance. I know the psychology that''s been marketed over the years (the mystique, romance, ego) plays a big part in the adoration. The same beauty and sparkle can largely be found in a cz (in fact, I believe them to be more brilliant and sparkley than diamonds which makes them of course look "fake" to me) but wearing a diamond feels genuine. Czs are nice, they are a great option for many, and I think they have their place, but I just don''t like the feeling of wearing something that''s trying to be something else. I like that diamonds come from the earth and are cut to exacting standards by hand to bring out their beauty. I like that there is a tradition, and history, to receiving a diamond, and that they remain an investment and adored thing for generations so we can leave them behind in our families after we are gone.

50% analytics, 50% aesthetics.

Love the numbers, angles, architecture & precision.

Love the beauty, variety, dynamics & character.

Well said.

maybe a little closer to 70/30 for me.

The study is more interesting than the stone to me.
Another vote for the analytics, make mine an 85/15 split.

Sincerely,

David

kewl there arent many of us around :}
if we were just talking rounds it would be 95%/5%
But with asschers its more 50/50 so I split the difference.

Irina what wonderful flower shots!! You must have an amazing garden

And that is your e-ring? How unique! It''s lovely on your hand (and on the flowers)

Sparkly! I was a magpie in a former life

But mainly because it will be a concrete and permanent symbol of how much he loves me and a constant reminder of how wonderful his smile makes me feel. Just like how the earrings he bought me on our vacation bring back the crystal clear memory of sun, shared adventure, and the hot glow of happiness every time I touch them. Besides I'd kinda like concrete proof we're actually going to get married, seems too good to be true!

I started as kid where I loved Rocks. I collected them. Then it turned into gemstones.

When I got maried and got my first diamond I felt on top of the world.

I used to think diamonds looked to perfect , or any faceted stone for that matter when I was young. Funny how things change, lol

I love that they go with anything you wear, the way they sparkle, thier uniqueness. If they suddendly dropped to 99 cents a carat I would still love them and buy a whole room full:)

Love the responses and reading here.

Gosh ... while I love the analytical side and studying the effects that cause diamonds to appear differently from environment to environment, first and foremost I really love and appreciate all of God''s handiwork in natural creation and the beauty of it. Observing all of the wonderous beauty of creation always reminds me of the Master Artist (or architect if you will) behind creation.

On par with diamonds I also love...

Observing the stars and planets. Nebula, globular & open clusters, other galaxies, etc. Awesome beauty which also inspires deep thinking.
The incredible beauty & variety of flowers, plants, wildlife.
Sunsets and the canvas of the sky that results oftentimes.

Ya know ... we can do our best to photograph a diamond, a ruby, a beautiful plant or flower or even a sunset but there''s nothing quite like experiencing it live and in person for yourself.

Beautiful shots btw irina/alex.

Diamonds inparticular ... natural reflectors of light that take on a beautiful appearance no matter where you bring it (well ... most of the time and with proper cut). And Lynn, under the trees on a sunny day is certainly one of my favorite. Environments in which one can observe both brightness and fire at the same time are my favorites and that''s certainly one of them.

Great thread.

Warm regards,

Irina, those are among the most beautiful photos I''ve ever seen here!

Hmmm.... I think I just love anything "representative"... the way a picture captures a memory and represents that time and place and person. Or a flower represents spring-time and things that are young, growing. Or eating french fries on the beach represents a million past summers of waiting in line on the boardwalk, smelling the ocean.

I think a diamond (and other jewelry) has the potential to represent some of the most significant events of your entire life... getting engaged, having a baby, an anniversary, a just-because present. When I see a diamond ring on somebody''s hand, I appreciate it for it''s beauty... but instantly wonder about the story behind it, too.

On a less-sentimental note, I love love love the clean white crispness of a diamond in a simple platinum/white-gold setting. I especially love the fire and paradoxical "softness" of certain shapes, given that it''s really just a chunk of rock!

I''m an April Baby, and an Aries to boot. Having diamonds as my birth stone is AWESOME!!!!

Here are some of my reasons:

They're millions of years old and so very unique and captivating

Each one is completely different, yet nice ones are rare and really draw you in

There's no other stone (IMHO) which captures your imagination so completely

One can sit in the shade of a grand old tree on a sunny day and be completely mesmerized (my Starbucks is one such place - meaning I spend a fortune at Starbucks!)

Buying a well cut stone involves creativity, patience, knowledge, patience, understanding, patience, money, patience

Setting a well cut stone involves creativity, patience, knowledge, patience, understanding patience, money, patience

And, like Mara said........"They're Purty!!"

Please help me to figure out how to answer to a particular post, how to get the original message in the top of the reply? For example, Sunkist is asking me if the Butterfly is my engagement ring. No, it is not. I just received this one from James Allen.

And my ring appeared a little bit different from what I expected, the original one is at:
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/classic-solitaire-settings.asp?cid=57&module=setting&item=174

The shape of my ring appears to be different from the image on this site, where the ends of the spiral are very small; they are barely visible and almost form a square with the stone perimeter. My ring has two big horns looking at the opposite directions. Looks like the manufacturer has one unified form for all sizes from 5 to 8 and squeezes it to whatever size is requested.
Also, is it always so many scratches on the surface of the ring visible under the complimentary loop ?(maybe they should not have sent the loupe

)
What do you think? I am asking all the readers of this romantic topic for their professional, artistic and honest opinion whether or not I should go and fix my ring to be exact as the original one. Or I am too picky?

Thanks,

Irina

Thank you, Sunkist. This is a more detailed picture. It is actually an 18Kyellow gold and platinum. So, what do I do? To fix or not to fix, that is the question :-)

I am picky, too, and I''d want it to look like the one in the picture. I''d send it back.

I am just afraid that they may damage the stone removing and inserting it back and forth.

Can not stop re-reading the posts from this topic because each of them expresses my feelings which I am not able to show in words. It is funny that a magpie has the same meaning in Russia: a bird which gets attracted to everything what is sparkly, including jewelry, of course

Irina

P.S. Thank you all who noticed my photo-exercises. This is my first experience in photography, as well as in diamonds, may be I love them also because of that?
