Yes and perception originates in the reader, not the writer.
Clearly I must become more understanding of, and adjust to, the readers here.
While you're at it, would you mind posting more than one sentence per line? I tend to not read your posts because that makes it very hard to read and form cohesive thoughts from your posts, and I think you have some interesting things to say.
1.gif

Funny you say that.
I'm just the opposite.
I do not even read posts that are the opposite, or too dense, with several inches of text, zillions of sentences one after the other, and no space between thoughts.

I love the room around the writing.
I like to hit the enter button after every sentence, and twice between "paragraphs."
I know it is not conventional.
I think it contributes to clarity, makes it easier to see and get what the person is saying.

Over the last 10 years many have complimented me on this and have adopted it.
This is the first post about not liking it.

I don''t read "walloftext.jpg"s either. Short paragraphs are certainly not something I''d complain about though. Fair enough, I''ll just continue to not read your posts.

Guess size really does matter to some people.

Touche.

Really? I think it looks like you''re trying REALLY hard to look like you''re writing your posts in poetic form in an effort to look witty.

Ditto Freke.

I''ll contribute the second, then.

When I see your posts, I wonder how many points you''re trying to make. It''s just hard to tackle because I''m conditioned to see paragraphs roughly as collections of sentences pertaining to a single thought. (Roughly.) When I see twelve one-sentence paragraphs, I think, oh, here''s a stream-of-consciousness, rambling post with twelve different topics.

I just thought it looked like a case of someone spending too much time in chat rooms. Just my perception.

Obviously we can all write however we wish, but I will say I find your posts incredibly disjointed and hard to read. Separate lines don't add up to clarity for me. Because you're working against convention, people have to fight against how they understand the written word and the meaning it carries in order to understand your posts. I'll admit that sometimes it's just too must work for me.

But at the same time, it's your "voice" on the internet, and I don't know that I'd recognize you without it.

It's not that I dislike it as much as it is just a lot more work to understand the meaning in your posts than it is for me to understand a post written conventionally.

This.

And really Kenny, editing your posts after someone else has quoted them is also irritating. But as for "not conventional" there is a reason for it to be not conventional. It has no flow. You may "enjoy" it, but as someone who recently graduated after reading untold pages of paragraph after paragraph of thought/data/research/theory, you seem to be doing it to be a "special snowflake".

So for your method of "makes it easier to see and get what the person is saying", count this person among many (guessing on that one) who disagree.

And for the record, you are the only person I know that does it. I hope it remains that way.

I''m with Princess. Sorry, but it doesn''t make things easier to read.

Also, I''m not sure how you started this thread without realizing that it would create controversy. Clearly people who post pictures too small or too large just haven''t figured out the whole picture posting thing (or don''t really care). Do you really need to start a thread to point out how annoying you find them?

Kenny - I see nothing wrong with your original post. This is yet another thread that appears to have taken a wrong turn.

I am not sure why, but some posters seem quite hypercritical lately. I don't understand why people feel the need to criticize so much. But, whatever, that is usually why I don't post in threads like these.

And, for the record, I have plenty of criticisms in mind, I just don't post them. What is the point, really?

LV, I try to avoid posting criticism, but I know Kenny has said in the past that he''s open to suggestions if people find something he''s posting offensive/rude/obnoxious/whatever. So, because I know he''s open to it, I''ll tend to be a bit more frank with him than I would with most.

I know all I''m trying to do is add a new perspective for him to mull over. I obviously don''t think it''ll change his mind, but since he seems to be open to hearing different perspectives (and adjusting things accordingly when he feels it''s warranted), I thought I''d throw mine out there.

I completely agree! I usually ignore the comments I don''t agree with and skip over them. Kenny, I''ve mentioned before how much I enjoy your posts--I still feel the same.

I''m actually glad people are airing out their feelings.

It is helpful.

I think when someone starts a post asking why people post pictures that are hard to see, it''s legitimate to point out that the OP posts text that is hard to read.

I agree I edit waaaaaaay too much.
It is usually for clarity, not to achieve some advantage after seeing someone's response to me.

I have a hard time being satisfied with what I have written till after I see it posted.
I need to work on not hitting the post button till I preview it and chew over it more.

Thanks for the feedback.

Kenny, I really like that you let people be honest with you. I''m a very direct person IRL and sometimes it''s hard for me to remember to tread lightly because not everybody likes that. It''s refreshing to be able to just be honest.

Well it feels good to gets things off your chest, and you never know the person may just embrace and benefit from the feedback if they are not too sensitive and insecure.

I'm certainly going to work on not editing so much here.

I do like my visual style of posting though.
Sorry others don't, but at least now I know and will take in under consideration.

I know a very successful published author.
She uses no caps when posting on the Internet.
Interesting.

That''s definitely something I''m learning here, I''m trying to really absorb and not take everything to heart. What you said is true, you kind of do have to learn to adjust your normal "online" tone to fit the forum you''re participating in. It can be tricky business even if someone''s been around for awhile!

OMG, so true.
There are about 5 other fora I visit and each one has VERY different unwritten rules and a virtual culture you be wise to adapt to.

One has NO rules or moderation short of pron.
It is like a biker's bar, and believe it or not PS is not the most refined, tea room-like forum I visit.

Interesting.
On another forum I read, one person never uses question marks when asking questions. Every few days, she'll be asked why she posts that way. lol

Kenny - I didn't even think anything about the way you're posting and its format as being any big deal. Yeah, it is different, but until it had been pointed out in this thread, I had treated all your threads like everyone elses, either I read or don't read based on the subject and how long the post is.

Yep, it''s a huge waste of time posting criticisms if it''s clear that will result in some sort of bickering. It takes me a lot of self control not to comment when someone says something rude. I''ve typed and then (luckily) on many occasions had the chance to edit my post before going to final print. lol

fyi there are several threads in the FAQ on how to use different programs on a windows computer to re-size pictures.
Kenny do one for the mac.

The new board software last I heard is going to have an auto resize feature making this thread irrelevant.

Play nice :}

I do believe the limit is programmable.
