Why are these ACAs $2800 apart?

0.11 carats?

0.11 carats?

Haha. I thought the same.

I'm a diamond newbie, but from my review, the smaller one is the nicer diamond. Better light performance.

No, the smaller one does not have better light performance. These are both top quality stones with ideal light return. Pricing can vary even on stones with almost the same specs since rough costs different amounts based on when it is purchased, etc.

Remember carat is sacrificed for superideals, the 1.9 carat probably would have gotten 2carat if not cut superideal and achieved a price bump, this may have been reflected in the pricing. Location of inclusion (Although both labelled eyeclean) can also affect pricing, along with date diamond was added to inventory

As a jeweler, I am not normally allowed to comment on another vendor's diamonds. However you are asking a question and I believe my answer is within both the intent and the letter of the rules. If not, the moderator will let me know and I will ask her to kindly remove this post.

It is more than just the 0.11 cts, the price per carat is different for the two diamonds.

This has to do with both being in a size range that would make it difficult to procure the starting crystal for cutting a 1.80 or a 1.91 ct to maximum beauty. Most cutters will buy that starting crystal and cut a poorly cut diamond in order to stay at or above the 2.00 ct size, which in spite of being much less beautiful, will sell for more money.

That means that it is nearly impossible to win the bidding war for those diamond starting crystals unless there is something in the crystal that prevents it from being cut to 2.00 cts. Still, the starting crystal that finished the 1.91 ct is much closer to that price increase and probably required a higher bid per carat than the crystal that finished at 1.80.

That would be my guess. You would need to ask WF if they can tell you more about the reason why. As tight as margins are in today's world, you can know for sure that if one is selling for more per carat in apparently equal cut color and clarity grades within the same retailer's site, then that retailer paid more per carat for one of them than the other.

Just my thoughts.

And, the trouble with taking twenty minutes to check things out and compose a response means that two excellent replies were already made while I was composing mine.

Both Diamondseeker and gm89uk have given you great answers.

Both are gorgeous but $2800 will buy you a gorgeous setting so I say go for the cheaper one if these are the 2 you are choosing between.

Also keep in mind, WF has a very reasonable upgrade policy so should you want to go up in size in future, you can.
