Wholesale Price of a 1.25 Round?

Hi All,

My fiancee has a family member in the jewelry business and he just offered to give us an incredible discount on my engagement ring. We are in the process of selecting a round diamond, approximately E in color, and very well cut (not ideal, but very close). We''ll be having it bezel set in platinum with a halo (somewhat like the Ritani endless love, but with a couple changes that make it more unique for me).

Does anyone know approximately how much a stone like that, approximately 1.25 carats would be wholesale? I wonder what the mark-up on diamonds is...I always had the feeling it wasn''t a very large mark-up.

I don''t feel like its my place to ask, since he''s doing us a favor, but if I had a general idea, I might be able to spend more and get something even larger, although I''d be happy more than happy with a 1.25. Yay! We''re hoping to spend about $7,500 on the stone and the ring.

you don''t give anywhere near enough information to tell anything about the stone pricewise or otherwise.
i can tell you that you can get an ideal cut diamond for that price online though

Thanks for your reply, Belle. Unfortunately, I don''t have much more info either, since my fiancee''s family member is doing the picking. The great thing is...I trust him and I know he''ll pick a good stone. I think he''s going for a VS2 or SI1, and since it will be bezel set, he said he''s looking for an ideal or almost ideal stone for us. I''m getting antsy because I''m so excited, but he actually hasn''t found the stone he''s been looking for yet because he wants want that is 7mm and he said he hasn''t yet seen a perfectly round w/ in the size/color/clarity he wants from his wholesalers this week. Now that I think about it, a stone larger than 1.24 in a Ritani-like bezel/halo setting might look too costumey anyway.
