Hello all! After a lot of looking around and thinking, my FF and I are thinking of designing something. I''m wondering who is best to go with for a semi-bezel with modifications (channel setting in the shank, maybe surprise diamonds). We are rather modern/hip people (He''s a musician, I''m uh, a scientist. Scientists are cool, right?), but don''t want anything that won''t be wearable 20 years from now. Anyway, I am thinking of going the way of Whiteflash, but I wonder how painstaking the custom process is and if they really will be OK with nitpicking (like oooh, the bezel is too thick, oooh, the shank should be a little more like this)! Also, I wonder how the process works! Is it wrong to write them and say "I want this type of setting, could you give me a rough estimate as to what it may cost if it can even be done." We have ideas, sketches, and pics pulled from online. Is that the way to start? Does anyone suggest another company to work with? Thanks in advance!

P.S., any advice to not go custom is welcome. I am somewhat on the fence about doing a Signed Pieces Etoile for the simplicity, knowing there''s a store to go to if there are problems, and the fact that the setting has been worn for years and people know it''s functional. Will Whiteflash or other companies say "what you want to do will NOT work!" I would feel more at ease if they would be frank like that.

Hi Queen,

First off, scientists are way cool! ''Specially lady ones.

As for your design, it definitely sounds like something WF could do. Yes, they will accept your picky ways (they are used to it, lol), and yes, I think they will tell you if it won''t work. But to be sure, just let them know you want total honesty.

I would email them with your basic design, and tell them you''d like a quote. Ask them how much more detail they would need, if any. They have done many custom settings, and in case you haven''t seen it, here is a thread full of their work.

HTH!

Thanks so much Elllen! I have looked through their custom jobs and see that they are QUITE versatile when it comes to different styles. I espcially love the sqaure-edged, brushed shank wedding bands that are so unlike what they usually do! Not that I dislike their online settings, but I love that they can go in such an opposite direction than they are used to and make such beautiful pieces.

Whiteflash custom made my engagement ring and I am super happy with it. I was VERY picky about what I wanted and they listened to everything I wanted and made several modifications to my CAD images. I worked with Sheerah and I highly recommend her-she''s awesome, patient and fun! I endorse Whiteflash 110%!

Quest does great custom work as well. They use CAD and will tell you if what you want is doable or not. They are willing to listen to your ideas and will try their best to make it happen.
