So, we are firmly in the research process of searching for a stone, and I''ve narrowed it down to rounds, cushions, and ovals (this is improvement!

). I know that BGD and Whiteflash are great for rounds; GOG and ERD are the go-tos for beautiful antique cushions; but I''m curious, are there any vendors who are known for their ability to pick beautiful ovals?

Thanks!

I''d like to know that myself..........

Diamonds by Lauren have ovals in inventory from time to time. I''d email with your specifications.
I absolutely love ovals, so I''d be excited to see what you pick.

If it is a diamond you intend to upgrade one day then be very careful with upgrade policies; many PS vendors won''t upgrade ovals (understandable since they are not in high demand). I purchased my oval through James Allen which is the only vendor that had an upgrade policy I could work with due to upgrade policy restrictions other PS vendors have; I was looking for lower clarity and color. I ended up purchasing a 2.42ct, SI2, J (with strong blue fluor.); the cost was still well below my budget so that in the future, should I upgrade, the doubling of the price will still be accessible for me. I love my oval ! Good luck with your search.

Ditto previous posters. Also, be sure to specify traits you absolutely do not want to see, like a bow-tie.

Jon at GOG has had some stunning ovals in the past and also sourced Kaleigh''s beautiful oval.

I too was going to recommend Jon at GOG. His video capabilities put him above other vendors in my book for fancy cuts because fancies really need to be sen to be picked.

Thank you for all the recommendations. Kaleigh''s gorgeous oval is one of my favorites!

As an add-on question, how low can you generally go with color in ovals? I don''t think I am very color sensitive, as I can''t tell the difference between a D and a G round brilliant when they are sitting next to each other. Would a G-H-I range oval appear as "colorless" to me, or does color show more prominently in ovals?

It depends on individual colour perception and preference, but to be on the safe side ( and depending on the size of the oval you are considering) I would personally stick to GIA graded G or H range, an I might begin to show a hint of warmth especially from the side view but it does also depend on the cut quality.

If you have the possibility of looking in person, I''d suggest seeing how J- and even K colors look to you.
There''s a massive difference in price going from H to J- and some people actually prefer the warmer colors.

I had great luck finding an oval I adore from a jeweler I rarely see mentioned here: Josh Fishman at A. Fishman & Son www.afishman.com. He has some inventory you can see online, but has more in stock (my stone was never listed online). He really knows his stuff, my family has used him for years for many items of jewelry. I was lucky to be able to go to NYC to see mine in person, and was happy to find that his description from the telephone was absolutely accurate. He is an honest and expert jeweler and has a great inventory of stones. He was able to show me about 4 ovals within my specs.

I hope someone decides to study ovals and then develops a signature oval cut for ideal light performance.
