This is my modest scrimshaw collection.
The large oval pendant is fossilized mammoth ivory. The tooth is fossilized walrus.
The small pear shaped pendant is bone with sterling wire.
These three were all purchased on Maui.
The brooch is bone, and the stickpin is elephant ivory.
Please show your scrimshaw jewelry!

I love it too, but worry about people hunting animals (elephant, walrus) to make stuff like this. So I always feel very uneasy buying it. I love your collection!

The fossilized material is legal, since the animals died thousands of years ago.
The elephant ivory is unfortunate, but so much of it still exists. You can possess it, but selling it is a big no-no. I'm sure that the stickpin is pre-ban.

Gorgeous!!!
Do you have any vendors you can point us to.
I would love a piece.
A pendant or charm ideally.
I envy my mothers Nantucket Scrimshaw Basket with a big cabochon scrimshaw on the lid.

I'm sorry, I don't know of any online vendors.
The shop on Maui where we bought these is long gone.

This is DH's collection of scrimshaw pocket knives. This material is all bone..

Can you share a picture of the basket? Would love to see it.
