D-F is defined as colorless, G vs. F "the naked eye cannot tell the
difference between" - Where does color become noticable when the
stone is set (in plat. or white gold)? I''ve thought H would be the
highest possible without the stone looking slightly yellow in some
lighting, could I (or even J?) pass in most lighting conditions with
slight to medium fluorescence?

Thanks... (pics would be fantastic to illustrate points here

Wandelost - it depends on whether or not you're talking about RB's or fancies. RB's in general show less body colour. I wouldn't hesitate to mount a well cut H, I, or J round brilliant in platinum or white gold. I start seeing a very faint yellowish tinge/flahes of light in RB's at H. It's all a matter of individual perception, though, and I think it hinges upon the acuity of your eyesight.

If you're talking fancies, that's a somewhat different story. I wouldn't mount anything beyond a G in white metal, particularly in a step or princess cut, but that's just me.

There's a thread in the "Show Me The Ring" forum that shows a whole whack of I coloured stones mounted in platinum & white gold. My advice would be to check it out, and also check out some mounted H+ stones in person.
