Goood Morning PS''ers!

So I have been engaged for 4 months and have had my 18k WG ring (posted under princess bezel) replated once already. It''s already yellowing again so it will most likely have to be remade.

The jewler already offered to remake it but now I''m wondering if I should go with platinum. I''d hate to get it remade then have the same thing happen and have to get it remade again in plat!

For those with WG experience - ''those people'' whose white gold always loses its plate and turns yellowish - does it happen only on the outside of the ring or does it yellow on the inside too?
Mine iss till perfectly white and shiny inside, its the outside that''s yellowing.....

I''m thinking what I''ll do is go and get a WG band from my jewlerr and wear it fora while and see what happens. I may try a plat band as well before we plunk down that extra money.

I''m not too upset about it actually since now I''ll be able to have a wedding band made that will match my ering perfectly.

Any advice would be appreciated!

WG yellows on me too, so I prefer plat. But, I prefer platinum for other reasons too. My sister-in-law and sister both have WG rings and just go in for replating every 6 months or so. If you think it''s bothersome having to replat time and time again then I''d just with plat.

oh and the inside of my WG wedding band is still shiny and white, the outside though has the yellowgold tint to it.

Interesting. I never thought to really look at the inside. I''ve only had mine done once in almost two years, so it''s working for me. And I honestly think part of that was from all the cleaning stuff I was using on it.

But if you''re wearing it off that fast, you really might want to consider Platinum.

No point in having it remade. When the rhodium plating wears off the outside of the ring from normal wear, it just needs to be replated. That''ll still happen if you have it remade! If you switch to platinum, it will show scratches and eventually turn a dull gray and will need to be periodicaly polished if you want to keep it shiny. So both require maintenance over time. Which you prefer is just a personal choice!

I recently switched from 18k WG to platinum as I was having the same problems. I didn''t like having to take my ring in every 6 months or so as my jeweler kept it for nearly a week every time.

Best wishes!

My engagemnet ring is WG, and I have had it for almost 3yrs now

I have only just noticed in last couple mnths that the bottom side (palm side) of band has started to yellow, and I need to have it replated I guess. But mine took a long time, and only in the place where it gets the most wear (underside).
Everything else still lokks shiny and white!

How in the heck do you replate a pave ring? Can that be done?

Yes. They just dip the ring, and it sticks to the metal parts, not the diamonds. No worries!

If price is a concern, ask your jeweler to use palladium white gold (white gold alloyed with palladium as opposed to the usual nickel). Cheaper than platinum, and white enough not to need plating. Otherwise, go with platinum.

For some reason WG reacts differently with different people''s body chemistries. My Rings are white gold. I have had my E ring for nearly a year and a half, and it is starting to yellow a little on the palm side (not at all on the part that faces up). I should probably have it dipped, but I want to wait until I need my wedding band done as well. My wedding band looks basically new still. But, one of my friends had her WG band begin to turn just a few months after she got it. She ended up replacing the WG with platinum, and she is MUCH happier. It does scratch up easier and get this patina on it, but I mean, I don''t think anyone really notices except for people she specifically points it out to.

I agree that it may just be your body chemistry. My sister''s wedding set is 18K WG and she has had to get hers plated a few times in the almost three years she has been married, and it noticeably yellows. My ring, on the other hand, does not yellow at all. If you are having this problem over and over again, skip having it remade in the WG and just go for the platinum or palladium.

Well when I did wear WG (I recently found out that I am allergic to it) It yellowed really easily on me, if you find it a pain to constantly rplate I would reccomend going the PLAT route. Or you can do what I asked my jeweler to really hevily plate the ring...The last time he did it seemed to last a bit longer than previous replatings.
