White Gold Vs. Platinum Settings

My friend recently changed her setting from Platinum to White Gold b/c she felt that the Platinum was too heavy to wear everyday.

Now, the round center diamond appears darker. Is this a possible affect of setting a stone in white gold?

Both rings would have been rhodium plated. There should be no difference.
Perhaps there is some jewellers rouge under the diamond.
