I know that heart shaped stones are not the most popular, but any opinions would be welcome on these two stones. Thank you!

Um, I guess I'd buy the second stone. It isn't losing as much weight in the girdle/depth. Plus it's less $.

I wish I could say more about these, but it would not be fair: given these numbers, I can well imagine a few "versions" for each stone and before starting to guess whether those "looks" may or may not be brilliant.

It would be great to judge these based (at the very least) on pictures and some account of light return. No idea where to get such brilliance analysis for hart shapes, but recently Blue Nile has started to present actual pictures of most diamonds in stock. There are a few harts that would match the size, color, clarity and price range of these two.

Have you seen these?

PS: The "very thick" girdle notatio is understandable for this cut and usually refers to the area of girdle between the lobes of the hart shape. The rest tends to get thinner towards the tip, so "very thin" would not be great. Neither of the stones posted carries a red flag in terms of proportions, as far as I know.

According to AGA the first stone is exceptional "by numbers" and the other a bit less so (LINK to AGA tables)

Ana--thanks for taking the time to respond to another of my posts. I appreciate the link to the AGA tables, as those have been the most informative material with regard to cut.

I am still confused as to how you can buy a heart shaped diamond over the internet. It seems that round brilliants are down to a science and professionals can tell from the numbers which stones will perform better than other. However, I have received very little feedback regarding hearts.

Shall I presume that the only way to determine if a heart will perform is by seeing it in person?
