Imagine you have two diamonds that had the same carot weight(1.52-1.53), cut(ideal), color(H), and clarity(VS1), scored the same on the Halloway cut advisor(1.0-1.1). One had a diameter of 7.46mm and has medium blue fluorescence and the other has a diameter of 7.35mm but has no fluorescence. Which would you choose? Larger with fluorescence or smaller without? Is the diameter visually significant anyways? Thanks,

Mick

Is there a significant price difference?

Assuming cut is very similar and excellent, I'd take the 7.46 Mblue one. the difference in size is small but not negligible. Plus the medium fluorescence will make the diamond look lighter.

NO contest in my opinion...the larger diam w/fluor.

The med. fluor will have no negative effect on your stone, and the price may (but not necessarily) even be 1-2% less than one without fluor.

Suppose the one with the larger diameter and medium fluorescence is about $300 more expensive than the one with the smaller diameter without fluorescence. Does this change anyones opinion or do you still think the slightly larger diameter is worth the difference in price?

Providing that cut is equal.....

I'd still take the larger bl. fluor stone - hands down. The med. Blue may make the stone face up whiter than an H & it's larger. Plus, it's a very cool look.

Fire & Ice, why are you so very right today?

I agree 100%.

Count me in too! Med. Flourescence in an H diamond can make it look like a G color or better - mine does!

First ... I'm definetely NOT going to assume that the cut qualities are equal. Not with that difference in diameter. I would want to know the crown/pavilion relationship for starters.

IF that were equal (and they probably aren't) I WOULD DEFINETELY AGREE with everyone's assessment here.

People are FALSELY INFORMED about fluorescence and it scares people away from diamond which could quite possibly be one of the most beautiful diamonds on the market but let it slip through their fingers because of BOGUS information.

DO NOT LET FAINT OR MEDIUM BLUE FLUORESCENCE SCARE YOU AWAY FROM A PERFECTLY FINE STONE. I don't know how to say this any clearer. It is the most ridiculous bs.

Now let us know the angles of what you are looking at on that honker.

*If* it's only a $300 difference, then I too would take the larger one.

I happen to love blue flourescence, so I would go with the stone with the medium blue.

Rhino, it's pretty obvious which everyone likes, but as requested, here are the numbers:

diam 7.35
depth 4.53 61.6%
crown 34 14.4%
pavil 40.8 43%
table 4.18 57%
culet 0.9%
girdle 1.9sl.thick-2.9%sl.thick
pol/sym = EX/EX
fluor = none

OR...

diam 7.46
depth 4.54 60.9%
crown 34 14.7%
pavil 40.8 43%
table 4.21 56%
culet 0.7%
girdle 1.0thin-1.9%sl.thick
pol/sym = EX/EX
fluor = medium blue

So???

The smaller stone is deeper & has some carat weight in the girdle. Hence, the difference in mm diameter
