Which vendor should I ask to unset a bezel?

I've got an OEC in a bezeled halo made by My Diamond Zone/Ivy and Rose Vintage. I bought a new setting to reset the stone and don't know if my local jeweler can do the work of unsetting the OEC from the bezel.

Which vendor can I ask to do this work? I feel like it's rude to ask MDZ to do it since I'm not resetting in a ring of theirs.

Are you hoping to reuse the MDZ setting with, say, a colored gem as the center, bezeled stone? Extracting the OEZ from the bezel isn't, in and of itself, a big deal for any local jeweler with a reputable bench who isn't a novice. Heck, I've done it, under my father-in-law's tutelage. But greater skill, and preferably a laser welder, would be needed in the event you want to set another stone in the MDZ setting; the bezel may very well need to be remade.

Trade member Michael E did a very informative post about this some years ago:

MollyMalone, thanks for the link!
I don't have another stone for the bezel ring, or any plans for it. I sort of expect it to be damaged when the diamond is removed, and I don't know if it's worth it to me doing any more work on it. I doubt I could sell it.
If unsetting the stone isn't that hard, perhaps the local jeweler can do it. I hesitate because the OEC has a thin girdle, but does that matter?

Hmmm, good question! I'd neglected to consider that your OEC probably has a thin girdle; I was simply happy that it isn't a princess cut. Still, I think the sawing method (which is one of the techniques my father-in-law, who was in the diamond trade, taught me) could be OK. IIRC (it's been years), you can saw just below the girdle. And maybe a skilled laser wielder could use that to safely bust the bezel?

Here's hoping some savvy Trade members chime in!

I'd ask vendors who have benches that work with OECs all the time, like grace or Adam at old world diamonds.

Thanks, PintoBean, for the suggestions. I've emailed Grace since I bought the OEC from her.

I just worry none of these vendors will want to do this because I'm not buying a stone or setting; I just need the diamond moved from one ring to the other.

Is the jeweler with the new setting local? Because I really can't imagine shipping the ring to a vendor who is not providing the new setting just to unset the current stone. The expense would not be worth it, in my opinion. If the new setting vendor is someone you trust to set the diamond, I would think you'd trust them to unset it, too. Did you ask them about it?

DS, the new setting is from eBay. I'm under the impression that the vendor only sells jewelry and doesn't set it. Plus, I have more knowledge about my local jeweler's skill than this eBay vendor. Maybe I should just return the ring. Someone posted the ring on FB yesterday and I impulsively bid and won. It might not be a good thing putting it in this setting since it has a thin girdle, although it's not super exposed, either.
