Hi everyone,

I am ready to buy a diamond for my significant other and have chosen two stones from Blue Nile. It will be on a 6 prong setting. My budget is roughly $7000 CAD for the stone and prefer not to exceed that.

I understand that there aren't any ASET scope pictures to assess light returns but which stone would you pick out of the two? Would you choose a different stone other than the two above with a budget of $7k CAD?

Unfortunately, they don't have aset images on the two stones from Blue Nile. I think I'll buy the one you like and look at it through an aset scope and decide from there. I'll definitely post up the picture when it arrives.

I have checked James Allen and White Flash, but because they ship from the states, it seems a little bit more complicated.

Hi Simone, that stone looks lovely however It's a little bit out of my budget.

Sorry, I thought you said 7k CAD max, or is that with the setting?

My budget is about 7k CAD after taxes and sadly where I live it's about 12% sales tax.

I looked at the ring on loupetroop and it looks great; really spready. However, I feel a little bit uneasy with a private sale diamond.

Ok I just want to confirm that the BN diamond I suggested is in CAD and the price indicated is “$6504.0 Duty Free”. Are there additional taxes?

Also, regarding the private sale, with PayPal you get buyers protection. The ring looks pretty awesome and I have personally purchased on LT multiple times before without any issues!

There is no duty when importing a diamond from US to Canada.
12% sales tax (GST+PST or HST) still applies

Ah ok, got it, thanks! So tax is calculated at the end of the purchase.
 
I swear we need a sticky thread just explaining how each country does the math for taxed/imports/etc....!
