Hello all :) I've been lurking these forums for quite some time during my hunt for the "perfect" stone, and would like all you experts' opinion on the 2 I have pretty much narrowed it down to.

1.37 F VVS2 XXX GIA # 2156521650

60.8% Depth
56% Table
33.5 Crown
40.8 Pavillion

0.8 HCA
No Florescence

$14,183 (See attached pictures)

Does the ASET image above look acceptable? Isn't it supposed to have some blues in there too? It seems kind of dark to me. And for a VVS2, this diamond almost seems too good to be true...

or....

1.34 E VS1 XXX

61.2% Depth
57% Table
33.0 Crown
41.0 Pavillion

No Florescence
0.8 HCA

$15,180

What are everyone's thoughts on which is the better stone for the money? Thanks in advance :)

looks like a nice stone!

may i ask, is that high of clarity and color worth staying down at the ctw you're looking at?

I honestly don't want to drop below an F color, and as far as clarity, it seems most other VS1 and even some VS2's are priced in the range of this particular VVS2 with similar carat weights. Ideally, yes, I'd like to have a slightly bigger size (around a 1.5 carat as my girlfriend has approximately a 7 1/2 - 8 finger size) and sacrifice some clarity, perhaps down to a VS1 or good VS2, but as I said, this particular stone with VVS2 clarity seems to be a really good deal. Thoughts?

It's always important to compare diameter as that can vary depending on depth, girdle thickness, etc.

I think the first stone looks just fine. But if I had a 7+ finger size, I'd much rather drop to G VS1 and have a 1.5 ct stone (and most here would probably go to H VS2 and go larger). The only exception would be if she has said she only wants F or higher. Well cut stones in the G-H range face up white.

Outstanding advice diamondseeker. I just compared some similar carat weight F stones to G stones and the price difference is quite substantial! And from what I understand there is not a huge difference in color, especially in a well cut stone like you mentioned (Im only considering GIA XXX with a maximum of 1.5 HCA) and in a setting facing up, between an F and a G. And shes 6'2", so considering her figure (she's tall and very slim, but for some reason has a huge finger size), I definitely think I need to compromise on color a bit and really get that bigger size that will fill out her finger more. Anyone agree? I guess to bump up into that "colorless" category you really have to pay a premium! Anyone else's input is greatly appreciated and welcomed :-)

Me :wavey: I agree with dropping down in color to get more finger coverage. A well cut G will still be very white. I would
even drop down to an H.

A stone with an HCA score of 1.5 isn't necessarily better than one with a score of 1.8

You just want it under two. Then, after you find one under two, you need aset info.

I have an 8-8.25 ring size so I recommend going up in carat size too for more finger coverage. Personally I like the price point of G-H color, vs1-2, or an eye clean SI1 (what i have) looks great with an excellent cut too! Have fun with your search!

FYI, I like Niel's GOG recommendation/link.
