Hi everyone! I'm trying to pick out a diamond for my mom and currently debating between these two stones from Whiteflash. Any opinions will be appreciated.

ACA
2.13 I VS2
61 Depth
55 Table
34.6 Crown angle
40.7 Pavilion angle
thin to med. girdle
8.31x8.35x5.09
$19,255

WF expert selection
2.63 I SI2
61.1 Depth
56 Table
34.8 Crown angle
40.8 Pavilion angle
Medium girdle
8.89x8.94x5.45
$18,500

Her ring size is a 6 and I know she wants someting in the 2ct. range. I don't know whether to go for the larger size or better clarity...

I would much rather have the vs2 diamond. A 2.13 ct diamond is quite large(to me)! I''m almost positive you would see inclusions in the si2 stone. I''d rather have the smaller stone with the better clarity.

FYI...you can possibly still see inclusions in a VS2 clarity...diamonds are graded top down, so inclusions can be visible from the sides depending on location. So it depends on the stone, just as an SI2 depends on the stone. VS2 does not *guarantee* anything.

Both stones are very nice from the numbers. In terms of clarity, it really is a preference.

I prefer a larger stone, so I would not pay for a VS2 clarity...MAYBE in a larger stone such as one of these, but an SI1 would suit just fine, and there can still be exceptional SI2 large stones..we have seen a few of them around here in the size such as this. It really depends on the stone and inclusion placement.

Speak to Brian at WF...he has a great set of eyes and I trust his opinion. My SI2 stone has alot of inclusions on the cert, but in real life it is 100% eye clean..I can pick out a few inclusions when I loupe the stone and then know where they are, but in 'real life' scenarios, the inclusions do not show up...all I see is sparkles. The cut helps as well.

Are the inclusions white or black? Feathers or clouds?

One great way to determine where everything is is to look at the 10x mag pictures that WF has on their site...my J SI2 showed a few tiny things in the 10x mag but again, eye clean in real life scenarios. So if you don't see much if anything going on in the 10x mag...it would stand to reason unless you have hawk eyes, the SI2 would be fine.

But..VS2 may make you feel better and less worried...again it really depends on the STONE and not just the grade.

Took a look at the stones and see the inclusions off to the left on the 10x mag but they look very scattered and faint. You can set some of them near or under a prong to help mask them....and I don't know that they'd be really visible...but I would definitely speak to Brian re his thoughts. The VS2 looks very clean.

What would *I* do? I'd get the I SI2...I was eyeballing that and wish I could afford it right now but alas...not yet!

I in biger stones is easy to see - stay with SI 1 or 2 and look at H or G

Just from what you posted, I would lean towards the bigger stone. As Mara suggested, call Brian at Whiteflash & have him talk you through both stones.
