Which side profile do you prefer- 3 prong side or 4 prong side? I think I like a medium width shank as opposed to a thick one. With the accompanying struts on the 3 prong I imagine both are very safe with regard to structure? The center stone will have 6 prongs like in the images.

Image 1 and 3: 3 prong side stones
Image 2: 4 prong side stones

I can’t remember where I saw image 1 and 3. I saved them on my phone a while ago so thank you to whomever provided them!

Image 2 is my CAD rendering.

Also wondering what width shank for the three prong one since I leaving towards that one .I’m wondering if 2mm-2.5mm is thick enough to support the structure of the ring? Also wondering if there is more of a spinning issue with the ring the thinner the shank?

I love the 3 prong profile. It's very sleek and seamless transition to the shank. I think a 2.5mm shank is pretty standard for a 3 stone ring.

I am in the very very beginning stages of changing my solitaire to a 3 stone ring so this thread is speaking to me right now. I’m not a fan of a lot of metal showing so I would say 3 prongs. Also, in the last pic you posted are the side stones angled and not straight across? I really like that look.

I’m a vote for three-prong! It’s the magic “tip and tuck” of the side stones that makes a three stone, in my opinion. :) Have fun with the design process!

Visually, I like the three prong.
How hard are you on your jewelry? If you're really rough on your rings the four prong will give more protection.
I would also ask to extend all the prongs on the cad just a a little bit more, closer to the 3 prong example.

:wavey: @Linny Personally I’m not a fan of the look of the 4 prongs, but I also didn’t like the idea of only 3 prongs (for safety/security reasons) for my 5mm sides, so I opted for a ‘bezel-lip’ in lieu of a single 3rd prong for my new custom 3-stone. I haven’t been on PS much lately, so haven’t made a thread to debut her, but here’s a picture showing what I mean, if helpful. Good luck!

That was a great idea! May I ask how wide is your shank? My designer talked me out of the 3 prong for security reasons but I too love the look of 3 prongs...
