I would like opinions on which type setting for studs. I am looking at 2 ctw studs. I want ones that will not droop and can be worn with jackets if I wish to do so.

What is your preference?

Thanks for your help!

I have to say that I still prefer the traditional 4 prongs...more take away from the stone, to me, and 3 is not symmetrical enough for me! And I think 4 looks best in a jacket because that is how they'd be prong set if they were all in one piece.

I will be curious to see the responses as I will reset my own studs in the near future!

I have three prong mounts and while they look fine on the ear of course, when I look at them they highlight the wonk in my OECs. So I will be going with 4 prongs. I have basket mounts now and like them a tonne though! They fit well on my ear. No droop with my 1.35cttw stones. I have heard droop has to do with your lobes though, and the size of the backing -- you can get large backings that will keep even heavy stones looking straight ahead.

I really like the BGD truth mounts, for fancier 4 prongs too. ETA: But I would really love these in a stud version: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond-earrings/studs/v-prong-lever-backs-18k-white-gold-5373w18

I like 4 prong for the reasons DS stated above.

Since they'll be RBs I don't think it matters - they'd look fabulous in anything! I personally prefer 8 or bezel but I'm of the Never Too Many Prongs camp. I do think 6/8 makes jackets more difficult than 3/4 - more prongs to align and wedge into the niches of the interiors of the jackets, so likely need bigger jackets...

W/ old rounds I much prefer 6+ or bezels, the extra prongs *really* minimize any out-of-roundness!

I just had my martini's reset into traditional 4 prong with screwbacks.

With my earlobes they just sit better with the 4 prongs.

I have the six prong tiffany setting from Better Than A Diamond. They'll sell just the setting if you e-mail them. GORGEOUS! No drooping, comfy as can be. You can read the reviews on their site. Also priced really well compared to other places I've seen. I've owned the white gold and the platinum.

I didn't do my link right but you can go there and click on studs.

i like 3 prong martini settings they are much easier to clean. my wife and daughter's 4 prong basket settings are PITB to clean all kinds of gunk like dead skins get caught under the basket... :knockout:

I feel the same way as ds. I have to plug BGD's Truth setting because I love, love, love mine -- my stones aren't large, so I can't say from experience whether they would droop, but IMO this setting offers the perfect balance of elements I like. It sits very close to the ear, like a martini setting, but is quite rounded in back so I'm not worried about my holes getting stretched out. It's four-prong, and I like symmetry. And it just has a beautiful profile...I used to want the W-prong setting from WF but once I saw the Truth head, that was that. I do still like the W-prong setting, though, and think it must offer most of the same benefits I mentioned above if you are inclined to order from WF.

I love my 3 prong martini's but the next best thing would be the BGD truth 4 prongs.

This thread might be helpful - Bliss compares her studs set in 8-prongs vs. 3-prongs vs 4-prongs settings and she includes pics of each. She ends up being happiest with the 8-prong settings and I, of course, agree that they look best  Her studs are 2.16 ctw, close to the size you are thinking of, so they should be good for comparison:

My vote is bezel. You can do bezels with jackets. In the ct weight you're looking at, you're probably looking at custom jackets anyway.

How about four prong martinis?

I also vote for the truth settings, they are just perfections. Absolutely love them!

I agree with DS 100%. As for not drooping, try the jumbo backs. I tried on a pair when trying to decide what to do for the earrings I'm having made and I was stunned at the difference it made in how the earrings sat on my ear. For the record, I was deciding between the la pousette and the jumbo, which the jeweler recommended.
