Which of these two round stones would you pick?

Let's assume that these two are priced the same. Well, if I told you the first stone was $6,000 less, how much would that change your decision?

Stone 1:

AGS

2.08
8.14-8.18-5.06
F
VVS1
Triple 0

Table 56
Depth 62
Crown 36 (this is the only thing that has me curious. how a 36 degree angle still produces a zero cut rating. most things I read said 35.8 was max)
Pavilion 40.6
no cutlet, no flour

Stone 2:

GIA

2.03
8.15-8.20-5.00
F
VVS2
Triple X

Table 56
Depth 61.1
Crown 34.5
Pavilion 40.8
no cutlet, no flour.

Can I ask why you are looking at the VVS clarity range? That carries a large premium at that size. For example, not knowing the price you are looking at, have you seen this one?

Compared to a similar VVS stone (http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2681950.htm =same color, both ACA's, similar size, the VS is actually larger) the price difference is ~$15K. That's a lot of money for something you cannot see!

Thanks for the reply, and I do agree with you, the VVS seems to carry a hefty premium.

The reason is more political than anything else, all of the rings that her family has are all VVS's, and the last thing I would want them to think is that I can't match the standard that her family has provided for her so far. Trust me, it drives me crazy. :nono:

I voted for the first one. THey are both great stones and, at $6k cheaper, it's a no brainer. Besides the first one is probably more fiery based on the cut so it will sparkle, sparkle!

Have you run the numbers using the HCA tool? That will give you more information regarding cut. GIA ex. Can consist of a wide range.

Def go to the tool tab and use the HCA tool. Then use that info plus the 6,000 price difference to make your decision.

Thanks Amy i ran both through the hca tool theags stone yields a 1.7 and the gia is 1.2 if i recall, so both seem great.

Am i splitting hairs at this point? I've been staring at three two so much my head is starting to hurt.

Another vote for the AGS! Have it shipped out to you and see what your eyes think IRL.

Report is recent enough on such a pricey stone that no worries about needing to have it appraised due to prior ownership, etc., though you could ask the vendor to confirm.
